Great job Matty! Don't worry about forgetting or not seeing the need to drop the ER40 arbor. We all have senior moments mate, some of us me included more than others lol I think I would have made the taper fit closer to the spindle having got button headed stainless screws and probably could have saved as much as 10-12 mm in the available table height. Plus's the fact that the button heads look fairly pleasing lol But as you say mate it is what it is and will work fine. Just use some locktite on the screws as I don't see you taking the arbor off any time soon, that gives you some security against any chatter, although I'd get some steel washers instead of the copper as they will no doubt crush and the bolts will loosen unless you check and tighten them at every usage. Cheers Matty from the UK. Sam

The "tin was a mission to get into", brilliant Matty, the Stuarts micrometer blue was the preferred choice during my time here in the UK, still using a tin from the 80's, its in a bag with some felt. Got a new tin somewhere 🤔. Great improvement, both on reducing height, and future proofing for other tapers, very nice job all-round. Ref the Hangefers coolant, doesn't take long to lose its translucency, not a complaint in anyway shape or form. Great video, thanks for sharing. Regards John

Gday John, the micrometer blue works good once you get into the tin, the coolant has discoloured faster then normal and that’s my fault, I normally have a heap of rags on the foot of the mill to catch the way oil, I took them out and didn’t put any back, now I have to put the skimmer in and clean it up, im getting lazy mate, thanks for watching, cheers

Can't beat plenty of fresh air between the head and the table ! I had to weld up then remachine a worn out bore on our timber trailer's H link last week on my little Tom Senior, had to turn the head through 90° and machine it horizontally. Home made line borer's on the cards, but it would be easier if the lads just exercised the grease gun now and again !

Hi Matty, all worked out in the end. I suppose the Elephant in the room is why the morse taper was not bored or threaded and the boring head spindle machined to suit. Although concentricity is not important when driving an eccentric tool, plain or tapered registers could have located a threaded connection. It was a huge billet just to have a 3" flange connection driving a relatively light machining operation. You would probably get another 1/2" clearance too. It's nice to make your own tooling, personally I would have modified a new soft stock MT3 arbor that costs much less than the huge billet, or an old MT3 drill. Using the bolt hole feature was useful but exactly the same co-ordinates could have been used on the X and Y axes either NSEW @ 28.75 & 0 or +/- 20.33 on both axes.

5.1mm tapping drill is fine, I use this when it's not a high strength application, ref electrical, or low strength applications, personally 5.0mm is too small, taps clog up very easily. 5.2mm is too big for engineering applications. @williammurfin6354 Жыл бұрын
@@chrisbaker3844 Well, do you have a P&N chart. I have it 30 years. The one I've got reads as to drill 6mm you need to drill a 5.1 mm hole or a 13/64 hole to tap for 6mm . ( in mild steel) I have always been instructed by fitters I worked with decades ago with if your drilling holes into harder material try to go up .1mm or.2mm of a size to allow it to tap harder material as to allow for the crap to get out and for easier cleaning as you tap.
