Learned alot thanks. Where is the meta data stored... if you want make your meta data available on another machine using the free edition what do you need to copy to the other machine. Also Is there a tool that can fill in keywords using the tree of folder names if you give it a starting point? I have my VFX files organized with folders but keywords are much more powerfull.

Hi thanks, learnt a few things I didn't know - the bulk rename thing is going to be really useful. This organisation stage is often overlooked and it's good that you've highlighted it. It may take time at the start but it speeds up things later - especially on a large project.

Always thought Resolve should make standalone apps for meta tagging and smart bins - so all of what you showed could be done on set with an app that doesn't require huge system resources and could easily be on a phone or ipad etc. I'm sure there are some out there that do pretty much the same thing, but not sure if it then transfers into Resolve. I think even wedding shooters could use something like that. The percentage in the attributes - I don't have the codes on hand but there are all kinds of renaming codes that work in there including sequential numbering. Another job for assistant editors - Lots of prep goes into files on set to help the next person up the ladder ( Editor - in this case ) - Really good for people to know this stuff, if they ever get bogged down and need to contract out the edit- it will cost them less, if it is organized. Good topic Jay, more important than people know. Keep up the great work.

Thanks so much Jim! A separate app for this would be an awesome tool for filmmakers for sure. And yes, as an editor I can tell you that receiving organized footage like this would 1000% cut down on costs.

Lol they don't. I'm on their press list though, so I get all their press releases. I think that's the closest they have. They don't do any influencer marketing at all.

That's a bummer. The only reason why I tried Davinci Resolve, which eventually lead to me purchasing a BMPCC4K and thus a copy of DR-studio, was your videos. If I didnt know what I was doing I never would have even tried it. So you may not necessarily get a big thanks from BMDesign but you definitely get a huge thanks from me! THANKS JAY! Love your vids.

Hi Jay, good video. What frame rate do you use for Camtasia as they don’t support 24fps?

It seems that everything that you use here in the media page can be done in the edit page, doesn't it?

Yikes! I could’ve finished editing the entire project by the time you were done organizing. I’m just half kidding, if you had a huge project (Perhaps you were doing a short independent film) I could see this happening. But for a short one minute or even five minute video… It’s just not necessary. And if you were really hard-pressed to find a particular shot, you can jump over to the cut page turn on source tape and run through all your clips at super speed and find what you’re looking for. That’s still easier than what you’re doing. But once again if it’s a very very long project then I can see someone doing this.

I think it depends on the amount of footage you have, not the length of the project. I've seen and worked on projects with hours of footage, and the video ended up being 10 minutes long (music videos can be that way), and organizing like this really helped. I see what you mean though. If you don't have a lot of footage, it's definitely overkill.
