Mosasaur rib and turtle vertebrae were the first two fossils I ever found. I was hooked from then. Thanx for these awesome vids. I usually search the sulpher river along TX 24 before and after Commerce TX. It's tight in there but some awesome finds

the tube shaped black piece you found after the piece of ammonite is also an ammonite but with a straight shell....at least I believe so given the suture markings

Yes ma’am, the name given to straight shelled Ammonites is Baculite, and there were a ton of them there!

The 2025 lake project is a shame. Very cool fossil hunt. You found a hyoplastron or hypoplastron from a trionychid turtle with that one turtle piece.

Thanks for the details on the turtle! And yes, it's a travesty, especially flooding it under the guise of protecting it?!? The river is getting over 6" of rain between this Monday and Wednesday, so there should be some fresh treasures revealed. I'm planning on hitting the river again soon while I still can. And thanks for the watch and comment!

I genuinely hate what they're going to do to such a wonderful place!! I did read up just now that they're going to relocate the fossil park somewhere else along the stream... Hopefully it's as fruitful as the original location.

Destruction in the name of progress...what's new, right?? Lol

Just thought I'd mention that mosasaurs aren't dinosaurs despite having the Greek word "saûros" in the name. They are actually squamates (the order which contains lizards and snakes) and a recent study shows that they are closest related to snakes.

Love that place, going to be super sad when they dam it all up!

You have got about a year to search this fossil park before it is covered by a new lake. 2025 is the year it opens Good luck

Yeah, I know. And somehow they've framed flooding it as a measure of "conservation". 🙄😢

Geodes can form anywhere, as they are hollow cavities lined with crystals or other minerals, by definition. You won't find the big round geodes (as they're more commonly thought of) here like you would in Kentucky, Indiana, or Mexico, but there are some crystal vugs hiding in some of the concretions from time to time!

Mosasaurs are not dinosaurs, btw. You may want to consider changing the video title accordingly.

Changed! I appreciate the information, that was a distinction I was not aware of until your comment. Thank you!
