3 Days Solo Winter Camping on a Brokeback Mountain | Survival Shelter in Deep Snow

When I started my way to Humpback Mountain, there was a strong wind, but there was little snow. I walked 3 miles (4.8 km) to the campsite. When I arrived I started building a shelter to protect myself from the wind and snow. The wind blew and snow fell all night, I heard several trees fall nearby. When I woke up early there was already a lot of snow. The temperature dropped to -12 °C. It was the craziest trip in my life, I felt fear, cold, and adrenaline. This may be a stupid question, but where I live the average year round, day and night sea temperature is 23'C, but I have read that snow insulates, so wouldn't it be better to pit a row of poles the length of your shelter to reinforce it, and let the snow build up,.
