"whether you get a 1, a 2, a 3, or even a 4, most students seem pretty satisfied with their grades".... or as we say in German: "Ein gutes Pferd springt nicht höher, als es muss." 😁

As an Austrian I can't say I agree. I studied with a lot of Germans in university and they cared a lot more about their grades than the Austrian students. I think the numerus clausus puts pressure on students and since we don't have that it is more relaxed here.

I like that saying - but I have to say it seems to me (MJ) to be a very German thing even outside of the schools, something I touched upon in a recent video...😶😬

Well done on your first video! You'll get more variety and choice when you enter A-Levels, 9th grade is very intense. I remember "Nullte Stunde", period before the official first period and started school from 8th grade at 6am and sometimes had to stay until 4pm with double period of Russian towards the end of the day.

Thanks! Wow, that's quite a long day - even longer than American schools are! Thankful that our days are not that long. 😃

First of all, thank you for the video, was a pleasure to watch. If I'm not wrong wie have Gesamtschulen in Germany that offer to take classes in different "difficulty levels". I'm full onboard with the ability to personalize your schedule a bit more, yet i would say giving one a broad spectrum on knowledge can help you later in life. I know a lot of people who changed their mayor after studying for 2 or more semesters because they found a new field of interest. I would maybe give pupils the choice to pick 3 subjects where they will not get any marks but have to attend the classes. Wish you and your family all the best.

Thanks for watching as always. All of the kids speak much better German than me (MJ). I know the older ones still have some challenges in class sometimes, but since they are almost fully integrated into Gymnasium I know they are doing OK. The younger two are fully integrated and interact with everyone outside of our family almost exclusively in German. Maybe I should make a video with the two littles speaking some German for you all?

Super Video! Klasse! 😊

Depends on the US School in East I saw many highschool start at 8am-2-3pm? Really depends on the US. It sound your school started an hour later than my own highschool that was private in the US.
@OnwardMJ

Yes, the schools in the US can vary a lot from place to place. Some start as early as 7:30 and some as late as 9:00 or 9:30. It makes a difference where you live and which school you go to in the place that you live...

Good job girl. 👍 I hope your dad is feeling better with the winter blues? The days are now a little bit longer and the sun is already stronger. Spring is not far and in the air. 😉

Thanks! And I (MJ) am doing good. This winter wasn't nearly as bad as last year, and now we've had some nice sunny days, and the sun is up longer, so things are looking good!

How did you reach the Gymnasium in Germany? Per Public Transportation? Or by a Driveby with Dad? ;)

No "driveby's" for us. (In case someone doesn't know, a drive-by is when people in a car shoot at people or a place without stopping or getting out of the car - not something we would want around our schools, though unfortunately the US has way too many school shootings). Public transport is the way to go. One of the things we love about living here.

You did that sooo well! I'm sure your dad is super proud! 😍 I'm impressed how well you explained everything and how mature you are at your age! You truely rock girl 😉😊! You said you used to learn German at school. I would love to know more about your experiences of learning German as I am still struggling to learn English 😁 But my kids on the other hand became fluent in no time 😊

Thanks! In the U.S. learning languages in the school system is not very good, but it provided at least a little bit of exposure. We all wish the U.S. would be better at teaching languages!

There are too many factors for any one person to say. A lot would depend on where you can live based on visas and that kind of thing. But Canada is one country, and Europe has many, so there are more options to choose from here and probably more ways to find a visa that would meet your needs.
