3 Different Workflow Approaches for Creating a 1:1 Track/Channel Parity When Working In Impact XT

In this video, I demonstrate 2 different workflow approaches I like to use for creating a 1:1 parity between the tracks (Arrange Window) and the Channels (Console) when working with Impact XT in PreSonus Studio One 5.
In addition - I also show one other workflow that can be utilized (that I don't personally use).

Nice video, thanks for sharing. There is another workflow and it's the way I usually work. After building my drum patterns I use the explode to tracks feature in order to separate each individual midi sound into its own track. Then I either bounce them all to new tracks to create audio files or if I have a template set up with audio tracks preloaded and labeled I just drag the midi files down to the correct audio track label and it's automatically converted from midi to audio.

Man, this video was so needed Marcus. While Studio One is really good with workflows, the one to one track/channel with Impact was always a bit confusing to many. I struggled with this for a while finding a quick workaround for getting the midi out to individual audio tracks. I think your first method is best once you're ready to commit to your sequence.... stem them out and bring them back in to the session. Nice job.

My workflow is similar to your last example. I sequence drums on one track, then explode pitches to tracks, rename and then bounce to audio when I'm done. Quite a few steps but I have gotten used it over the past couple months. But I think I may have to try your first example because I like to work with audio. Thanks

for the last method. you can select the event that you've programmed on the one track and then have it split by pitch. each instrument will automatically be separated to tracks on the arrangement. then you can just apply the Info panel adjustment you did . it'll be much quicker that way. you'll still have to rename though. but you can save it as a preset so that you don't have to reroute every time. then it's just changing your samples and you'll be good. this was def needed though. had no clue about that info pane output adjustment

I really wish studio one ☝🏻 work on pattern editor n piano roll options.. (step sequencer like logic and pianoroll like fl studio ). Other then that studio one 5 is pretty good 😌 Hopefully we get some more cool features in upcoming updates ... and yes triggering option in impact xt would be nice ....

I agree. With FL Studio once you drag a sound into the sequencer it automatically creates a track.

Thank you for this video, very helpful stuff!.... maybe the last workflow you presented might be even more relevant when you work on other virtual multichannel instruments like Kontact, I do that all the time, but I didn’t even know I could have each one of those midi instruments showing in the console separately!.. awesome thank you!

I've been trying to add send effects to individual sounds, like a delay on the snare and automate it, and it just doesn't work... Could you make a video on how to do this?

Never mind lol I discovered I had the record armed and that caused the send effects to not get automated... For anyone else struggling with this I'll leave it here...

It will be great if Studio One's sequencer was independent from Impact. You should be able to open the sequencer separately and drag n drop your wav files directly into the sequencer, which will then automatically create and audio track.

A great video! My question is if it can be bounced to mono instead? It seems like the stereo stil beeing heard like mono and is not so widened as stereo use to be even if it is bounced in stereo. How usual is it to have drums bounced/recorded in stereo anyway? Thanks for your time!

you definitely ca. i do that myself. i will recommend to bounce through the "stems" method that way the mono tracks remain mono when you export them. if you just convert the event into audio impact will change mono tracks back to stereo

Is there not the possibillity to explode pitches to tracks? To note is that this only works when the event is a midi event in the pianoroll mode, it does not work when the drum mode is used. I use it myself very rarely, but it will create in a fast way separate channels for each drumpad.

Please see my other reply to the same question - It will separate the TRACKS based on any pitches that were used, but it will not separate the channels. Cheers, M 🍻

Why didn't you talk about "explode pitches to track" ? It's so much faster than your third option !

Well - it depends... Yes, Exploding Pitches to tracks is faster, and also useful but it's not really the same as what I'm talking about. (Creating a 1:1) Try for yourself, and you'll see that it will create a track for each different pitch that was used. BUT - Each track is still linked to the SAME Channel in the Console.. (In my Example: they're all linked to the Kick Channel) So you would still need to manually link each track to each channel in the inspector. Also in cases where you have multiple pads that share an output, they would each come in on their own track, so you may end up with a ton of tracks that need to be grouped back together.. (like all your Toms, or all your Hi Hats) Either way - its a good point that you've brought up :) Thanks for your comment :) Cheers, M 🍻

You spent more time during that part than you did assigning the out for each channel in the inspector - though I agree that being able to set that up quickly would be ideal. Maybe the same way we can assign ins and outs in a cascading manner. I

Your invert selection didn’t work because studio one v5 is buggy. It hasn’t worked for me either, plus the select tempo track, chord track, marker track, etc button doesn’t work half the time either. I have to open and close the inspector track sometimes, to get those to start working.
