As someone born in Ireland and who goes there regularly,I can confirm what is said in this video. Especially what is said about brown bread.They just don't have bread like this in other countries I've lived in , especially not in Canada or America.The brown bread is actually more special than the Guinness as other countries have good stout ,for example Mackison in England and I've tasted good stout here in the States. NOBODY makes brown bread like they do in Ireland. Even my late Aunts Mollie and Hannie RIP,made brown bread fit for a king and all you needed was lashings of Kerrygold butter and a couple of mugs of Barry's Tea and you were set ! It was as satisfying as a meal. Good video that is well presented by a knowledgeable and naturally engaging couple.👍 PS -- May I especially recommend the brown bread made by' Pat The Baker'. At a little over €2 the last time I had it ,its a steal.I would gladly have paid more and will be sampling very soon again ,God willing!!

Ask the locals where to go! We know what’s worth it, the ‘not expensive’ places, where to eat (my granny’s stew was lovely by the way-what you get in pubs and restaurants is mass produced and tends to be bland because it’s not catering for a particular group of people).

so, you went to O'neills for the stew, not a good spot. you're best to head to the country. but there is Irish stew, but there is also Brown stew which is different again. But agreed, walk through temple bar, then exit and head south of Dame street to the Dame tavern or stags head or the Long Hall

I disagree on Irish hospitality in Dublin! Irish people are usually friendly and helpful but Dublin is an exception. I couldn't even ask people for direction to a pharmacy on the streets of Dublin because everyone is too busy to stop. Another overrated thing in Ireland is the Trinity College. I had the most outrage treatment at the gift shop of the Book of Kells exhibition at the Trinity College - with my family including two 5 & 6 year old children. Because there was no public bathroom at the exhibition building, their father had to use it at another building. While I waited with the children at the shop, a male staff wanted us to leave even though we bought their merchandises. I explained the situation and pled with him to let us stay because the shop was our meeting place and their father's US phone did not work in Ireland. He replied "I gave you 5 minutes. Leave." I was so shocked and speechless at his rudeness and callousness. We were their customers, we had two children just waiting for someone to return from the bathroom, and it was pouring rain outside. Seriously, this guy didn't care about the customers, or children. He wanted to kick us out in the rain outside! Fortunately their father returned shortly. But this will always be my bad memory of Ireland. I do not recommend the Trinity college for any visitors - based on my experience, I think it is overrated. People should know about it!!

Thanks so much for tuning in and commenting. Dublin does have more big-city vibes, for better and for worse, than the rest of Ireland for sure. Most of our research before we went told us not to spend too long in Dublin and enjoy the rest of Ireland, and they were right. Cheers and happy travels!

@@jimmyandbabstravels I suggest the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin. In addition to Guinness and the amazing roof top view, it has great service and will not kick customers out of the gift shop until closing. They have everything at the shop!! Fortunately we visited other places in Ireland (e.g. Dingle and Cliff of Moher) before Dublin. Driving in one local lane shared by both directions was definitely challenging, but the views are worthwhile!

I think one bad experience in a very touristy place does not make Dublin unfriendly. I am sorry that you had this experience- that guy was way out of line and very rude to you. I think most Irish people would have called him out on this if they saw him acting like this towards you. I am from Dublin and I do believe we are friendly here- especially when you consider we are a city of 1.5 million
@timeglass777
@timeglass777 11 ай бұрын
@@GaryWalshDublin I agree, most Irish people are friendly which made this experience especially jarring and memorable - also considering it happened at the best educational institute in the country. That guy was instructed by his supervisor so I don't think that it is just one person. It may be the whole culture at the book of Kells library and even spreading to the entire campus of Trinity college.

Agree with ye about Dublin, I go as far as to tell people to avoid it if you want to see the real ireland. Disagree about stew! Ye just got a bad one. And the weather..... I'm from Galway, and it rains quite a bit. July is nearly over, and it has rained almost every day. Really like your reviews, honest and informative. Keep up the good work!!

I'm irish and dublin wouldn't even be in my top 10 counties I would tell people to visit. Temple bar is literally somewhere for tourists to buy overpriced beer. The best irish stew is the one your mum makes, it can't be bought. And the worst weather is in the west or north, not on the east coast

Thanks for lovely reviews of my beloved country but my advice is get out of the cities and away from the "touristy" places to actually get to experience the real Ireland. We are so much more than Dublin, which is not a very nice city any more - dirty, sleazy and unsafe.
