I appreciate the gays and theys ❤ I got a red maranta yesterday from a nursery… it’s not looking too good… I’d love to see you make a video about them! My leaves are somewhat curled… not plump… dark yet greyed out almost… patchy… and this was the best looking one! 😅 I want to nurse it back to health

@@Marxnchill i have a fever today so it may be a week or so before I’ll be filming again. I want to help you now though so I’m gonna type out some thoughts. I use to have a huge collection of maranta but don’t have many anymore. The two most common causes for curling on them is not enough humidity and pests - usually spider mites. Are you familiar with how tiny spider mites are and what they look like on a plant? It could also be a moisture issue but unless it’s been drying out for days for a while, that’s usually not the issue. The grey color is a really common thing with them when tap water and chemicals (fertilizer, pesticides, fungicides) are used repeatedly. Neem oil or horticultural oil sprayed on the entire plant. Then wipe each leaf front and back with a microfiber cloth will help if there are pests and help get the layer of gunk that’s causing the grey off of it. I’m not sure why maranta are so prone to the “water spots” compared to others but they are. Patchiness could be from any of the 3 issues I mentioned above.

I'm currently trying to see if my Nepenthes (I'm a new plant mom!) has too much water or too much like. I don't think it's light, though, since I already didn't have a lot of light on it yet.

Nepenthes aren’t a plant I’m very familiar with. I have one I’ve grown successfully. I do know they like to sit in some water but it has to be distilled or rain water. Absolutely no tap water. Tap water has fluoride and trace minerals and chemicals that harm them. They also don’t like fertilizers on the roots. I believe Red Leaf Exotics has a KZbin channel and may have some good info to help. That’s the only person I can think of here on KZbin. I’m sorry, I wish I could help you more.
