This is fantastic! I need this technique! Colors are so important! What if I just couldn’t find the color I want? Should I just try as many times as I can? Or it’s because I lack some color knowledge that could help me find a color? For example, I had a skin color, and I wanted a little darker one to make a shadow, but I just couldn’t find a good darker color……😅

I love your honesty about saying that you aren’t sure you know if you are using it right and that you don’t know how to correctly apply colour theory. It’s refreshing to hear honesty and not a know it all opinion. It’s nice to know that others are just as unsure as the rest of us. Colour theory can get quite deep. Especially the psychology of it all, how certain colours make us feel, act, behave. Companies spend millions on this. So they know what colours to make their brand in order for us to but it. So they know what colours to make their advertisements, their typography so that it catches our eye and makes us connect with it so again, we are more likely to buy it. For example, blue is cold, makes us think of water and I’ve, whereas red is hot so makes us think of heat and fire. It goes much deeper than this, but that’s the basics of it. Most of us pick colours we like the look of, but we never question why we like that colour. Does it relate to a childhood memory etc. Why some drawn to different Colours than others is all to do with the psychology of colour theory. It’s a really interesting topic to learn about. We touched on it as part of my photography degree, but I can’t wait to do more of it when I go back to do my graphic design degree.

I'm even more impatient because I have never tried digital art. So I can't wait to get the Ipad and try procreate out! 🎨

Also, you don’t need to create actual palettes as you might never use them and they clog up the palettes you use. Just save the documents as a picture. The. You can quickly grab the colours if and when you need them. Having them as a picture you can look at will be inspiring as well.
@iPadLettering4 жыл бұрын
I like having color palettes because Procreate only lets you have one canvas open at the same time, and switching canvases to select a different color would be a bit cumbersome :) You can reorder the palettes, and have your most used ones at the top, which makes it easy to see.

Hi Karin, thank you for all your helpful videos. At 5:54 I watched you putting the selection rectangle around your colour palette, you then double tapped your pencil and it brought up the copy/paste tool box. Is this something you set up, when I double tap my pencil it just switches between brush and eraser. Your choice is way more useful. Any advice?
