Thank you Anna for this great tutorial. It is beautiful! This would make a lovely card❣️ I have quite a lot of Dr P.H. Martins liquid water-colours that work like inks. They are very staining and when dry can be painted over without smudging. These techniques will work well with them. That pink is such a gorgeous colour!

It depends on whether it is an ink that is waterproof once dry.

Dear Anna….thank you for your reply…I already use Escobar soap for my brushes…I use Escoda synthetic brushes I bought the red set after your review and they are fantastic, thank you…I just wasn’t sure if I could use the soap on my brushes after using the Newton & Winsor ink, I thought I might need something stronger….thank you for the video link…that was very sweet of you…. Thank you, I have a set of Bombay inks, but didn’t really know how to use them. Can they be re-saturated in the palette once dried?

Hmmm… I tried this before and with enough water they can be somewhat reactivated BUT the resulting mixture is not the same as the original - the flow is worse (naturally as tap water is not exactly what was in them originally) and I also find it to be super dusty - with every precaution to cover the palette there are still particles of dirt. It’s definitely not ideal - sorry! I wish it worked like watercolors 😊 thank you Kathryn!

@@EKS49 Staining will occur with regular use even with regular watercolors, that doesn’t spoil the brush. What you have to be aware of with India Ink is to completely wash it out before it dries since once it does the shellac binder doesn’t wash out. So long as you wash your brushes after use and care for them as normal using ink (specifically permanent ones like India) is no more harmful than watercolor

Sorry if by any chance you talked about this already, if you did, I didn't catch it! Quick question is you could help me... Does alcohol (india) ink stain porcelain/ceramic palette? Or does it wipes away like watercolors? I'm about to buy my first inks and don't want to ruin my watercolor palette!

Unfortunately it does! You get rid of most with a lot of scrubbing but I wouldn’t do it!!

I would suggest one more technique. The brush must be drier (or the ink must be less). Right at the limit where you can still paint with it. On the rugged paper it's supposed to leave stains similar in shape and texture to a charcoal or pencil. Look at the first few seconds in this video kzbin.infowR19YibdOmI
