Yes, thimbles are still sized. The size is the same number as the ring sizing for your dominent middle finger and I think there's thimble nerds out there, because I am one. You know, you could do a video about thimble sizing until your hand heals up... Hoping all is going well. Personally, I found my thimble on Kijiji (Canadian Craig's List) from southern Ontario during the first lockdown. It belonged to a lovely woman named Ethel. I keep it/her in an "Altoid" tin with my needles and threader. Have I mentioned that every interaction in the 'comment' section, in theory, pokes the algorithms into making the number at the end of the month bigger. So, with that in mind, may the Almighty Algorithmic Gods (both the Old and the A.I.) find this offering satisfactory. Gesundheit. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi

There seem to be many different size types. The one that fits the best I got from a Christmas cracker! Second best belonged to my grandmother. One of them says 3... And I am a big lass. Birdy

I would love the video on why you believe it must a pure vintage pattern. Sounds like an epic rant!

Oh Yes! I have so many UFOs and I have even bought quilty ones at estate sales. I, unfortunately, have UFOs from two tailoring classes that I attempted at college, one I got a "D" in, the other I withdrew from before I could get another "D" on my record. Somehow that "D" did get expunged from my record. Maybe because the rest of the Clothing Construction classes I took were all "A"s? Love your videos! Thank you!!

Oh man quilt UFO’s scare me. Those I don’t touch, but I have a quirk shirt from the 80’s and I think a blouse from the 60’s I have grabbed at estate sales before. I keep meaning to finish them.

@@StephanieCanada The quilts were a surprise, I bid on some 1970s quilt fabrics in some boxes and the parts for the quilts were on the bottom in one of the boxes.

@@StephanieCanada I want to put it together. We have moved twice in the last 3 years, I am looking forward to getting everything organized so I can see what I can finish up.

I actually had to finish a bridesmaid dress that another seamstress had started and then decided it was too complicated. The other bridesmaid dress was being made by a seamstress in California. There were many emails and pictures between us so that the dresses would hopefully turn out the same. I have Never taken on someone else's project, just too complicated. The dresses did turn out and the Bride was very happy with the results. I enjoy your channel, you are very funny. No thimbles for me, my fingers have calluses on them after so many years of sewing!
@StephanieCanada4 жыл бұрын
Amazing! And bridesmaid dresses are important to finish, mine are just blouses and dresses for everyday wear. Thank you for watching!

I use thimbles sometimes for hemming . When I was pinning the patterns for masks, I had to use them.
@tina85134 жыл бұрын
I like original vintage patterns for the same reasons - one size and fit me better.
@StephanieCanada4 жыл бұрын
Yup! I think it is SO much easier to handle.

Sized thimbles, yes they still do that :) And I rarely use them as well :D Sore fingers...

Right! I know they would help, and I don't use them. Le sigh...

Found you through Facebook today! Love your personality. I do feel old though because I found out today by your video that I am apparently vintage. I was given a giant box of vintage patterns. I am trying to learn how to resize and use them.

@cinnamonberry38674 жыл бұрын
I want to hear about using vintage verses modern reprints. Maybe show specific examples of a 1940s or 1950s pattern with a modern reprint of it. I know that's a task for sure, but I bet you could compare something as popular as say the "walk away dress". You get what I mean I think.
@StephanieCanada4 жыл бұрын
@@cinnamonberry3867 Oh that dang walkaway dress.. there have been folks that have shredded the modern repro, so I will probably not touch that one as I know it is garbage. However, there are definitely patterns I are searching for to do just that comparison.

This is great advice! I followed BB's tutorial for leather thimbles and use mine all the time; just make sure your leather is thick enough or you might stab the back of your needle through it. Ouch. :(

Very informative video. I enjoyed it, and found it to be quite helpful. The volume is a little up and down at times. Otherwise it's a great video.
