Hex is one of my favorite horror novels! Can't beat that small town eeriness. I have The Gingerbread Men and The Whistling on my shelf and now I'm even more excited to get to them!

Creepy and chilling is everything I love in books. Gingerbread men and the Whistling sound interesting! I'm definitely picking them up! One thing I've been wanting to read more lately is summer horror. As a season, its somehow underrated in the horror genre I find. 🤔 Neither ghost or dlashers are particularly scary to me, but i love a good yokai story

Considering HEX scared the absolute crap out of me, I'm really anxious about reading The Whispering. But read it I will because it sounds amazing.

Nice selection, Willow. You've convinced me to take the plunge on The Whistling. I've had my eye on that one since Harpies in the Trees covered it and the way you described it as mystery meeting horror really sounds like my thing. Hex definitely sounds interesting and unique as well, so I've popped that on the wishlist. I'm currently reading Everything the Darkness Eats after seeing your video too.

All of these books sound fantastic. The one that intrigues me the most is Hex, another one for the very long tbr list! I love horror and rarely get scared but Hex sounds terrifying!

i took Hex off my tbr bc they changed the setting to America when i was expecting a horror novel set in the Netherlands. Your review has made me reconsider 😎 also bumping up The Whistling and adding The Gingerbread Men to my tbr. I'm never running out of books to read as long as your channel is active!

I really appreciate well-done translators and don't think they get enough credit. Translators should always be on the covers of books in my opinion. Amazing recommendations. Hex was already on my TBR, but I've just added the other two. Thank you again.

Hearing you mention Haunted reminded me of reading Guts when I was 23, and the way I blankly stared into space after finishing it. LMAO, Anyway The Whistling sounds really creepy and fun, definitely gonna check that and The Gingerbread Men out :)

I've read "Hex" years ago, if I remember correctly the author was in my fauvrite library for the french edition and I couldn't be there, somhow I bought it later in English translation. Apparently the first Dutch version had different ending.

Read The Whistling during the lead up to Christmas last year, & like you i really enjoyed it. Really enjoyed trying to figure out the mystery surrounding the twins & they're former governess, & there were moments in the book that were genuinely creepy.

Ohhh jeez. I'm such a baby when it comes to horror but I've always been really interested in it, it's like a siren song to me. (Recently I tried reading House of Leaves...I lost two nights of sleep and returned it to the library about a third of the way through. Sigh) I might pass on The Whistling based on the way you described how scary it is, but Hex and The Gingerbread Men sound like such cool concpets! I really wanna give them a shot, I hope I can handle them lol

The Whistling sounds interesting and my cup of tea but I have to say that I never find a book "scary" - a lot of people told me that the Silent Companions was super scary and I didn't find it scary at all. I liked it but I haven't found a book that makes my blood (even) colder. And I am such a chicken with movies - I can't/don't watch horror movies but I love a good ghost story.

I don’t disagree! The one time I remember almost crying with fear while reading a book was when I was eleven and I read A Christmas Carol. The bit with Marley’s chains dragging on the floor

@@WillowTalksBooks the book that scared me the most was the "Woman in Black" I always hate the ideia of a figure with veils or long hair (it creeps me out) also they always scream a lot so I get really scared 😅 Anyway, I would like to read some really really scary book... I've read a small story last year that's in the "Haunting Season" it was about a woman who was closed inside a room after having her baby and I remember it was spooky-ish to me.
