As with any knot; rope strength is reduced when creating a knot. If you need 100% of your rope's strength use something else. A locked porta wrap works great. Keep in mind the WLL of your porta. They bend and break too.
Mid-line knots have a tendency to capsize if not dressed proper. There are a few exceptions, albeit, dress your knots proper. A carabiner, prevents capsizing when installed correctly and aides in untying.
The Flying Bowline is not a true bowline; nonetheless, a fast mid-line variation, that comes apart rather easily.
Sorry about the volume. I forgot to compensate the volume in the demo.

thanks for your video. I have a question regarding my schoolwork. Between a running bowline and a figure 8, which is best tied in the middle of a line? I'd appreciate any input, thank you!

The farmers knot is very similar to an alpine butterfly. It also works midline.

Yes it you enjoy axing out a knot use the Alpine. When put under severe load it is horrible to untie

Have you tried out the alpine butterfly midline loop? That’s all I use on my 3:1 felling setup, actually for any midline I use that might have some weight on it. It’s non directional and I’ve never not been able to undo it by hand. I’m sure you’ve heard of it but if you havnt tried it out I’d look into.

The Alpine butterfly is a pain to untie when loaded heavy. Works for light/medium stay away for the heavy

This standard bowline tied in "the middle" appears to be a TIB (tied-in-bight) Scott's Locked Bowline. Interesting technique but not sure of its utility.

For these knots the load is attached to the open loop right? When you say to put a stick or carabiner thats so the knot can be undone after you put a lot of load on it from then open loop?
