What people tend to overlook when evaluating a fighter's combat value is the whole context of the environment it's designed for. Albeit it may be true that the Fw-190 requires more discipline when approaching a fight, it is highly potent when you add wingmen and a multi-threat environment - simply due to its firepower and ruggedness. A 2- or 4-ship of Antons or Doras flown well by experienced pilots is very difficult to beat. A 2- or 4-ship of Spitfires Mk.IX - despite being the best dogfighter on paper - is very easy to beat by a disciplined pilot in any German aircraft due to their speed advantage. In fact, if you enter the arena with an altitude advantage, you can beat such a formation of Spits alone or retreat if it gets too hot. The 109 - in contrast to the 190s does not carry weapons very suitable for dogfights. Due to the poor ballistics of the 30 mm cannon, you're basically down to 2x 13 mm MGs in a turnfight unless you are really, really close or a very gifted marksman. This means that the 109 must get much closer to its prey than the 190s and that makes a big difference in a tactical environment. The Fw-190's nickname "Butcherbird" was a reputation earned in earnest and this plane lived up to it. To sum up: All three platforms are very potent in a tactical environment. What you should choose depends heavily on what you personally prefer. The 109 and the Anton are certainly more recent modules and it shows that the Dora is already a bit older. Much like P51 vs. P47.

right on time! I was thinking about getting some with free trial, WW2 in DCS is usually neglected but I feel like we can have lots of fun with these assets. GOOD video!

@@blackfalco33 the D has a better engine but I think the A had a more diverse ground loadout capability

@@blackfalco33 I mean for warbirds they were very easy to get off the ground, compared to something like the P-47. Weapons systems are very easy too

Congrats on the Dora! I have all 3 and IMO Bf109 is best at dogfighting, Anton is best vs bombers and ground attack. But man just to fly the aircraft itself Dora is my favorite. I love the clean minimalist cockpit, it feels so futuristic.

I really love the Dora. I’d prefer it was a D-12 or 13, with the same or near enough firepower as the Anton, but even so. It’s my favourite warbird. Thing is, unless you ‘fly’ multiplayer (I don’t) there’s bugger all content for it. No official campaigns at all. While I’m wishing for different things, it would be nice if the Anton had the slightly better engine tuning, the one that was in all Antons after the first few went out with the uprated engine. Greg of Greg’s Planes and Automobiles talks about it. And I’d also like the 109 to be a G-14 or even G-10. That slow 108 30 mm is great for bombers but terrible for dog fights - It runs through ammo in seconds. I have used a mod which swaps it for the 20mm at it absolutely kills it in dog fights. I suppose they do it the way they do for balance reasons, but I’d prefer it wasn’t the way it is. Still, I really love the D-9.

Depends on what you want to focus on. Dog fighting, the 109. Ground attack, the 190.

I highly recommend the Dora. However, forget about turn fights. Get into a falcon mindset and be amazed.

With so much slip/skid it is miracle to hit something. Ball must be centered before the shoot.

Looking at the sticks movement I'd say stand up from the desk, take your joystick and throw it out of the window :)

As for the Bf 109... With the updated damage modeling (2022?) and the latest September 2024 update to fluid leak effects I would assume that the 30 mm cannon on the 109 is very satisfying to use :)

For me it's the K-4 hands down. I've come to accept that while they all have much to offer, I enjoy the process of flying the 109 the most. I like that its performance gives you many different ways to approach a dogfight, whereas the FW-190 has one strategy it has to use in all situations. If you aren't in a position to do that one thing, you'll lose. The P-51 outperforms the D-9 across the board, even if only slightly in some areas, but that lack of tactical flexibility really becomes a problem against a similarly capable opponent.

I've flown all 3 (trialled the 2 FW-190's and I own the 109). From my experience... The Dora - I didn't get on with this aircraft at all. Didn't think much of it as a fighter and is not as tough as the Anton The Anton - Played through Reflected Simulations Horrido! campaign with it. Kind of enjoyed flying it by the end of the campaign, but in my opinion its to be regarded as ground attack and Bomber intercept. It really struggles against Allied aircraft in dogfights. The 109 is the opposite of the Anton, a thoroughbred fighter capable of holding its own against any Allied aircraft, but is vulnerable to AAA in ground attack.

I have all 3 and im mostly flying the 109 for Dogfights. It outturns the P51 and outclimbs the Spitfire.

Good content, it's a shame that the wwii context is neglected by ED. Among the dcs warbirds, Anton is the most wronged; the version that was modeled by ED is the Early, with an obsolete engine, all real loadouts are not available, ED did not even add a pilot to the plane.

I have the K4 and the Dora...I love the K4. I just can't click with the Dora for some reason. I stand a chance against a P51 in the K4 (As long as I have fuel) but the Dora, I never want to tango.

@@chrisolsen5280 dude, the Dora is amazing! It's fast as hell so keep that speed up and High Yo Yo, be patient and if you end up in a pickle, outrun them in a climb!

OK so, you know those things have cannons right? Looks like you were just using your machine guns. You have to assign a button to the trigger cover and then the cannon fire to get them working in most German DCS warbirds.
