Exploring the world by bicycle and documenting the people we meet transformed my life. The first trip was 4,200 miles along Adventure Cycling's Trans Am Route from Virginia to Oregon. With no experience, I set off with teammate Annalisa van den Bergh - together we now have logged over 25,000 miles or over the circumference of the earth.
Here are timestamps to find the right biking setup for you:

1:30 Filmmaker bike touring setup

In this video, I sit down to explain biking setups using the Ortlieb 4L waterproof frame-pack in ways that keep let me film or simply have fun on the bike.

I've been thinking a bit more about my emergency setup / first aid kit actually. Any recommendations? I'll always have water treatment tablets...I started to put a tourniquet in my panniers on remote trips

External battery/power-source are amazing, especially with Tandem's rechargeable batteries and almost everyone using a smartphone to run CGM. Always a good thing to have, not only as a T1D but also a filmmaker!

I always chuckle seeing Tandem users "plugged in" to a wall or external charger. One of the most common items I see ditched after a bit is a solar charger. External battery packs last a pretty darn long time and you get into a habit of always charging when stopping in a cafe, someone's home, etc. One of the 'luxury' items I bring is a Belkin wall charger with 3 chargers + 2 USB spots.

I've seen some people put their water bottles on the side of their front wheel fork!
@ErikDouds
@ErikDouds 3 жыл бұрын
I think 'newer' touring bikes now have bolts / holds to put cages on the front fork (and under the frame - popular spot for an MSR fuel bottle). I believe there are some products out there that allow you to put a water bottle anywhere using something like a zip tie but definitely jealous of those who have proper spots for them. The 5 1L water bottle setup is the way to go

@@ErikDouds My water bottle holder can velcro anywhere around the frame. It's great! It also has an elastic strap the holds the bottle in, so you can put just about any size bottle in there. It's awesome.
