The thing I love about this channel unlike some other channels who teach about money is the realness of it. It's not fake and all relatable which is why for me personally I keep coming back 😊

My best money strategy in younger years as a single mom. I lived super frugal so that I could get a year ahead. From that point on, I always had all the years bills including household and grocery money a year ahead. Relieved so much pressure and stress!!!

i lived super frugal as a single mom so that i could FEED and clothe my kids and keep a roof over their heads. There was NEVER enough to save to get ahead!!! Now that my kids are gone, i thought i could finally get ahead…but now prices of everything are astronomical!!! But i have been able to save enough to pay my property taxes right when they come due, at least, rather than having to pay the interest in them. So some improvement.

I find when I am organized I spend less money. On the other hand, when chaos hits, I blow the budget. So, my number one trick is to stay the course and be organized with money, budget, spending, and saving. That's it in a nutshell for Annie.

Well this video came on the perfect day!! I definitely am a budget geek- at 74!! This morning I got out my graph paper and pencil and wrote out my April budget! It’s a monthly ritual. Now I’ll enter every expense under the proper category at the end of every day and at the end of April - Bingo! Success! Such a satisfying feeling!

I'm definitely becoming a geek about money, and it's making me happier, too. This thing about asking yourself "*HOW* can I have this?" is astonishingly powerful. I am planning to do something this year that I thought was outside my financial possibilities while my situation remains like it does now - but it now seems that I just wasn't thinking as flexibly as I could. I don't want to say what it is until I am sure I can do it, though. I'm investigating! (See what a money geek I have become?) I would never have done this in the past and this channel has been a large part of teaching me that I don't have to think inside the box ALL of the time when it comes to money. And it *ALL* comes down to budgeting. Best lesson of my life, I think, learning how to budget - because once you budget money you realise you can use that to start to budget your time - and I suppose at ninja level, maybe you can also learn to budget your attention! Have a wonderful weekend, Kate - and Kaden, Mr H and the girls! xx

Not a fan of Dave Ramsey but I think anything ppl can do to pay off their debt is good. I think you really need to invest a lot more than 15% to retire with decent amt of money. Because I have to catch up with retirement it’s more like 30% or higher. But everyone has different path to wealth-just make sure if works for you.

Throughout the decades we have often had tools, things, and toys that others have marveled at. Staying out of debt, a number of general frugal living activities, and having cash to spend when a deal popped up or after saving a bit is why we were able to buy useful extras and extras in general. One rule we tried to live by was to keep living on what would be our regular income during times of overtime. On and off overtime was spent on extra mortgage payments, toys and wants with the realization that anything we bought had to be maintained and operated on non-over time income, and experiences. Even so, when there were things we wanted we often counted what we were willing to cut back on, not buy elsewise, and set aside.

I geek out whenever I see your videos 🙂 I have really gotten into making lists - either on paper or on our grocery store apps. This really helps me stay on track when I am going to pick up pet food or when I have Chris get groceries on his way home. I also try to put the dollar amount next to the item, so I have an idea of what I will be spending or if I don't find an item cheaper than the amount listed, I know I have another option.

Hi Kate! Long time viewer, but never commented before. here I go :) I love your videos! I am a newly single mom of a teenage son who lives full time with me (Yey!). I cut all spending to minimum, and budgeting for sure. I did follow Dave Ramsey, and am debt free. But now I am renting a tiny apartment with high rent (keeping my son in the same school district). I really want to own a home, but living in NJ, the market is CRAZY. If you can, can you comment on how to learn patience, as that is something I am truly struggling with.

Alina! YOUR FIRST COMMENT! THIS JUST MADE MY ENTIRE WEEK! Thank you so so much!!!!!! PATIENCE: Okay, so this is TOUGH, but it CAN BE DONE! (I feel like I need to do an entire video on this, but in the meantime..) Remember what you WANT THE MOST. Keep your EYES ON THE PRIZE, but still find ways to enjoy each day as they come. REMEMBER when it gets tough, that each little decision you make (being smart about money) get you CLOSER AND CLOSER to the goal post of owning your own home and LOVING your NEW SPACE! Buying this house took me what felt like FOREVER, but when I made it I STILL am grateful EVERY SINGLE DAY I am in this space. PLEASE go to my playlists and click on the one that says Buying Your First Home for TONS OF inspiration since I just went through all this for the last decade or so:) :) And PRACTICE the FAUX budget that I talk about in THIS video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i33EhISgdtKdjbs I'm CHEERING FOR YOU LOUD AND EXCITEDLY!!!!! So, tagging on to your idea of “how many hours of my life do I lose working to get this item/experience” are the following: the cost per use. So 200 Euro K2 skates are “inexpensive.” I use them a lot, I use them for years. Compared to a 50 Euro gym membership, that I may use maybe once a week… those 200 will be gone in 4 months, and I only worked out 16 times if that. So the skates (bike, hiking shoes, etc) are always worth it. Another thing I sometimes do, and this is not at all an honest way to do math, is to think about adding my two kids into the equation. A 10 euro thing is actually 30 euro’s. As every Euro I earn is for me AND the kids. So from every Euro I actually only own only 33 cents. If I buy something silly for me, I take away money from the kids. The math, like I said, is definitely wrong but it helps putting things into perspective. Spending money on something I don’t need is taking away that money from the kids/my future self.

Hi Kate, Thank you so much for these amazing video! Totally debt free here except our house , but we almost have that done too. Your videos help us keep our eye on the prize. One question I have , you have mentioned your budget buffer in your checking account, do these funds serve as just your checking account cushion or if you needed it, would these funds also be part of your emergency fund? Meaning when you calculate your emergency fund is this extra cushion included in your total?

GREAT QUESTION! Okay so how I do it, is the buffer is on TOP of the emergency fund meaning the buffer is always around that one month amount, PLUS the 3-6 month emergency fund. I use my budget buffer as a catch all so there's always something available if something unexpected comes up, that is not true emergency. I try not to touch that emergency fund AT ALL, but the buffer is used and replenished:) I hope this helps!

I heard a different take on credit cards that make me look at them differently. THE POINTS EARNED BY SOMEONE ELSE IS PAID BY THE PEOPLE THAT GET INTEREST CHARGES. THE CREDIT CARD COMPANY IS NOT GIVING IT TO YOU. POOR PEOPLE THAT CAN’T PAY IN FULL DO. 😢

Ramsey has many good ideas in the baby steps. But I don’t like him telling people not to have credit cards and your FICO score doesn’t mean anything. You and soooo many other people disagree with him.
