One of the easiest methods to clean a water bottle is warm water and a denture tablet. They’re very inexpensive and dropping a tablet in once a week before a normal wash will restore your bottle to like new. And no odors left behind!

@@NicholasGarofola it’s been a lifesaver for me. It was actually recommended to me by someone that travels the Appalachian Trail. I’ve been very happy with the results. Give it a try for a couple weeks and see how much it restores the bottle. Let me know what you think!

You can also use any coffee machine cleaner like Puly Caff. It’s usually a bit cheaper and they never contain any scent or flavor stuff like denture cleaner sometimes does.

I’m pretty far from a minimalist myself. I like physical things a bit too much. I’ve been spending way too much money on stuff I don’t really need, so finding your channel has been very helpful to bring some balance to that and help focusing on more important aspects of life. Thanks 🙏

Nicholas, as always enjoyed your video. I read "Your Money or Your Life" by J.Dominguez & V. Robin a few decades ago and it changed my financial trajectory. Trading time/living energy for any item is an eye opener, certainly. Living Debt free and spending purposefully is what brings me financial peace of mind. Hope all is well in your world, Daisy and I are going to the dog park. Don't tell JW where we are.

I usually follow the rule of thumb, “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.” I need to have a good reason rather than just a design change. I also look at the quality and willing to spend more for it to last longer. Waiting as long as possible will give enough time to think about the replacement item. If that item isn’t in your thoughts for a length of time, then you don’t need it.

one thing that has made it harder for me to save money is just spending time online and finding materialistic rabbit holes to go down. some sort of activity, convenience, or lifestyle change that I am convinced is worth spending a ton of money on. but often I feel major regret over these splurges. and what’s worse it that even though I know this, sometimes it can still be hard to resist. value per year is a great way of thinking about the things you buy, but what’s even better is being able to control what you buy and how often. this is where a budget is crucial. knowing when you will incur costs, how much money you have, and how much money you’ll end up with at the end of the month is so important. when staying on budget starts feeling like a “high score” in a game, it can be easier to stay disciplined. it will also cause you to think much more carefully about the value of what you’re buying - a higher cost now for more savings later. not to say you should *never* buy something you want just for the heck of it, sometimes we deserve rewards for our hard work. but nothing will kill your financial confidence faster than uncontrolled spending. this is true no matter how much money you make!

I found it's important to let a waterbottle dry out completely once a week after a good hot wash, gets rid of any algae build up etc.

Use a few tablespoons of baking soda and hot water, shake it and let it sit for a few hours with the lid on. That should kill all mold and germs.

one thing that i'm glad about are the purchases i've made over pricey items that are still functional after five or six years like a timex watch or a the north face backpack. i am now in the stage where i question myself if i do need to replace something. there are a few regrets in living simple but the less things i now own is i guess what i needed. your videos are as always helpful.

Great insight. Putting a time value on the money you spend does put things into perspective. As a guitar player, I often am afflicted with GAS (gear acquisition syndrome), when in reality I should focus on becoming a better player with what I already have. This strategy will help me regain focus when the GAS hits :)

If you have a way to play the games you want to already, it's not worth upgrading. I have a ps5 and modded vita I use when I feel like gaming, and I have a gaming laptop. I too was going to buy a pc but like I don't even play games that much or use my laptop often, so I stopped myself

Really like your watch mate, can’t beat an analogue. Could give that bottle a good boil wash mate and let it dry natural. Or just get a new one and give it a boil wash every week to 2 weeks. Great video again man with great tips as ever. And good to see Paul keeping your money safe. Good name for him 😂

2:07 how can I compare 16 hours of your time (the Nike example) with $20 ? Also, the 16 hours Nike will last you years if you take care of it, whereas the gym membership only lasts 1 month. Assuming that the average Nike goes for $100 and assuming your Nike will last only 1 year, you are paying $8.33 per month for your Nike, whereas you'll spend $400 on the gym membership over a year. Of course this is all subjective because it is about your opinion and I respect that.

Honestly the way I began thinking about it is that my savings isn't really mine if I have debt. I had to pay off a credit so I wouldn't start getting interest, so using my savings did hurt.. but it was a weight off my shoulders!
