People really ignore the fact that Djokovic already has the "Nole" slam(held all 4 majors at the same time, this has also not been repeated since Laver). This is already much bigger than Laver's 1969 because Novak did it on 3 surfaces and also in a much more competitive era. In Laver's time, the open era had just started, the competition was still abysmal, it grew from there.

I feel like Novak doesn’t even go full out when beginning a match unless he’s up against Nadal or Federer. You saw that in the Wimbledon SF vs Shapo, he didn’t even play his best and it was still a straight sets win. The way he manages his emotions and energy to use it in clutch moments is partly the reason why in my opinion they are winning a greater share of the points. It isn’t just them improving, but rather Novak not going full out from the get go. Just my 2 cents though.

Most people would agree. Djokovic won Wimbledon playing in 2nd gear throughout. I think we'll see gear 4/5 at some point in the US Open swing though, he'll need it cause the competition is more fierce on HC.

Not trying to hate on anyone but I think that when we talk about the Big 3 owning the next gen we should only talk about Djokovic and Nadal but not Federer. Roger hasn't played that many matches against the next gen in slams. The one he played against Tsitsipas he got owned, Hurkacz bagelled him, Rublev has beaten him. He also has a very horrible h2h against Thiem. So yeah, I think it's not the Big 3 that is on another level, it's the Big 2 of Djokovic and Nadal. Federer gets pretty much owned nowadays and of course it's because he's just too old
@14DANESSJ
@14DANESSJ 3 жыл бұрын
Well honestly Federer actually has had a hand in owning the next gen. Federer embarrassed both Berrettini (Wimbledon) & Medvedev last time he faced them. Zverev and Thiem has given Nadal trouble in every Hard court match (and both have beaten Nadal multiple times outside clay) and Tsitsipas beat Nadal from 2 sets down in their second ever meeting in a major. Also if I'm not mistaken, Nadal also got owned by Kygrios on multiple occasions. Djokovic is the only one who's consistently beaten the next gen crew on every surface except indoors. Outside Novak's one major loss in both 2019 and 2020, he's never been beaten in Grand Slams (Injury and disqualification don't count).
@harryfopper7799
@harryfopper7799 3 жыл бұрын
Wrong, if you look at the h2h of fed vs young guns he is clearly ahead of them, when you take his bad years when he is nearly 40i the of course he looses more than he used to but still can beat them clearly when he isnt overplayed and still fit in a tournament.
@Mekzy007
@Mekzy007 3 жыл бұрын
Roger is older, so it's understandable, I am a Novak fan, but I also know that by the time Novak gets to 37, his h2h against the younger gen would start shifting in favour of the younger gen, its life, you can't stay at the top forever. Hopefully before that time comes he would have set all the records possible.

Slams after the age of 30 Djokovic: 8 Nadal: 6 Federer: 4 I don't get why people think that Federer is the one who set some extraordinary trend of playing beyond the age of 30. Dude has won only 4 slams in the last 11 years. People say that as soon as he hit 28 his prime ended but I just think that he took his foot of the gas. The guy got everything for granted early in his career and he just wasn't ready for the 2 beasts that were incoming. In reality Novak and Rafa are the ones who have set the trend of playing beyond 30 and it's not even close. Nole is taking it to a new level though
@aryatawde8121
@aryatawde8121 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t think its that he took his foot off the gas so much as after crossing Sampras he had no clear goal. It is an inevitability of any sport that the next great raises the bar and Novak is the next great who had a higher ambition, to beat the records of both Roger and Rafa. You’re doing Novak injustice by suggesting that he only beat Fed cause Fed stopped working hard especially in those Wimbledon finals where Novak’s mental game showed so powerfully.
@samy29987
@samy29987 3 жыл бұрын
That is just a ridiculous take. When Federer was 30+ he had to play against Delpo, Wawrinka, Murray, Djokovic, Nadal, Tsonga, Cilic, Berdych, Soderling in their primes. Novak and Rafa never had one or two beasts that were rising and coming up 5-6 years younger than them. Right now Djokovic is owning because the next gen is just not good enough when Federer had MILES better competition back in 2011-2015

@@zdravoralehellofred8078 Good question. I don't know whether my perception is true or representative, but I guess my idea is that life is tougher, wilder and grittier than in Western Europe and that this has an influence on people's mentality. To give an example, my neighbour lived in Russia for a long time and tells me that melancholy is a lot more prevalent there than, say, in France or the Netherlands. I love Russian classical music (Prokofiev and Rachmaninov) and it may have something to do with some of these themes. My impression is also that life expectancy is lower, particularly for men, and alcoholism more abundant, though that may have changed since Yeltzin's day. My mother once spent a week in Romania and was spooked by the dog gangs that roamed the streets. You don't get that over here. Nor too many bears, for that matter, though wolves are coming back. When it comes to the Balkans, one of my first associations is still the Kosovo war. I was a child when Milosevic was in power, but I still remember hearing news of massacres at the time. I also have the impression that religion is fairly strong and orthodox. The Russian, Serbian and Greek churches come to mind. A Ukrainian friend of mine tells me that a lot of elderly people there still have a visceral fear of hell. I'm also aware of Christian-Muslim tensions in the Balkans and an old animosity between Greeks and Turks. Hospitality is another thing that comes to mind. I think Turkey is famous for it, whereas Germany is decidedly not.

Matt, why do you constantly use only one stat to determine the GOAT? Many people including the “so called” experts and commentators foolishly point to only one record, Majors, in forming an opinion who is the GOAT. This is close minded and misguided since Majors account for only 20% of a players career. If a person insists on using just one record to determine the GOAT, then weeks #1 is a much better stat since it accounts for 100% of a players career. Also, it is far more difficult to become #1 then to win a Major. In the open era, 51 players have won Majors and only 26 players have become #1. A player has to play very well for two weeks to win a Major yet has to play very well for a whole year to become #1 To determine who really is the GOAT, simply look objectively at all the major records, stats and facts, using rational thinking and logical reasoning, Keep the wishful thinking, delusional dreaming and misguided emotions out of the discussion.

Okay Matt……we all know you like Roger and he is your boy. We get it….however, if you want to be taken seriously as a commentator you need to start dealing with reality. In 2021 Novak is rated #1 with 7170 points roger is rate #46 with 630 points You still think Roger can challenge Novak at any slam? He hasn’t beaten Novak in a slam final in FOURTEEN YEARS ,there was a time when he was the GOAT. That is simply no longer the case.

Many Roger & Rafa fans are making lame desperate irrelevant arguments in a vain attempt to show their player as the best. 1.Roger is more graceful…….. If I want graceful, I will watch women’s ice skating or ballet 2. Rafa was more dominant……. No, Novak beat Rafa seven straight times twice including seven straight finals. Also Novak has 120 more weeks #1then Rafa. 3. Rogers game is more beautiful…… This isn’t a beauty contest. If I want beautiful, I will look at Russian women. 4. Roger & Rafa are more popular…… This isn’t a popularity contest. It’s about the GOAT determined by stats. 5 Rogers prime is better then Novaks prime …….. Wrong.. Novak has higher peak ATP rating then Roger Novak has higher peak ELO rating then Roger Novak has higher win % then Roger Roger hasn’t beaten Novak in a Major final in FOURTEEN YEARS Rafa as a novice teenager beat prime Roger in 6 out of 7 first matches. Roger has a terrible losing record against Rafa Roger has a poor Master record. 6. Roger has more class and is a better sportsman…... Wrong. Novak applauds opponents great shots during a match. Roger never does Novak looks winning opponents in the eyes when he shake hands. Roger never does Novak give full credit during press conference to winning opponent. Roger never does. Novak never demeans a winning player . Roger does calling lucky shots Novak gives kids his rackets. Roger never does.

Roger and Rafa more popular? 🙄260-270 million Russians, 290-300 million Chinese, 140-150 million Indians, 60-70 million Eastern Europeans, 80 Africans, and probably over 150 million others fans from all over the world is nothing. Let's prove that apart from “MAYBE” Nadal, has there ever been a single player in the history of tennis who has had that many fans.

I do not think Roger set the standard after make 30s. In my book Rafa and Novak are way better in that departmant. Here why I think so , maybe I am right maybe not. after turn 30 - Rafa 6 grand slams Novak 8 Roger 4 , year-end finish as No1. - Rafa 2 Novak 2 Roger zero weeks at No1. after 30. - Rafa 68 Novak 107... Roger 25 Too me it`s Rafa and Novak who set the standard.

Federer had a lot tougher competition in his 30s. Achieving what he did with the other two GOATs around 5-6 years younger than him is nothing short of incredible. Federer set the standard, that is a fact. You can say Novak kept the standard and improved on it, certainly, but Federer was the first one to show the tennis world how well a player can play past his prime.

All Stats, H2H, achievements, consistency, covering ALL Masters(that Federer and Nadal DID NOT archive..yet) and every aspect of this sport that we call tennis...let alone CLUTCH AND MIND EFFECT that is so legendary about Djokovic that probably neither athlete in the history OF ALL SPOTTS had it, let alone tennis.................say Djokovic is THE BEST AND MOST DOMINANT ATHLETE EVER IN ALL SPORTS Most of the sportsmen never compete in the same era (for example :Maradona - Pele, Jordan -LeBron and those are team sports), but Djokovic competed in the era of the two best ever in tennis sport...AND HE BEAT THEM BOTH IN ALL ASPECTS OF THAT GAME. And not only them...CROWD TOO with them combined.
