Hello teacher Alex, great video and explanation. I have a question, I've learned we always have to use "the" before the musical instruments when using them with "play", like, play the guitar/the violin/the drums and so on, and you didn't do so on your example: can you play guitar? I got mixed up because of that. Is it another way to say it or is it more informal but also correct? Can you clear it up for me please? Thank you as of now. You're a great teacher.
@engvidAlex8 жыл бұрын
You can use either sentence and the meaning is the same. I play the guitar. I play guitar. Both are common and don't affect the level of formality.

Hi teacher Alex, could you take a look at this question, which is in the engvid quiz "Did you enjoy this video?" Alex asked ____________. • if we enjoyed this video • if we have enjoyed this video • if we enjoy this video • if we had enjoy this video I think the answer is the last one, cuz ( past simple ) gets ( past perfect) when we report it, but in the answers there you've chosen the first one could U just explain that in brief ?
@beak16184 жыл бұрын
The last choice is “if we had enjoy this video” but that’s incorrect,the right version is “if we had enjoyed this video”

We wouldn't say "He said to turn to page " We would say "He said ,"Turn to page ." Or He told us to turn to page. We change the reporting verb "said" to "told" or we use "said" with direct speech because we report exactly what someone says.

I have a question from you lecture named '' 3 Grammar Rules for REPORTED SPEECH''. in W.h questions, you have written the direct speech as '' Is she here'', and the indirect speech that you have written is '' He wanted to know if she was here''. My question is why you did not change ''Here'' to '' There'', Thanks.
@Angie-xv4kv6 жыл бұрын
I got a question. I hope you can help me. It is about what would happen or how would be the change of yes/no questions ( if those are in past perfect, past simple or in future) into reported speech. For example, some question like : Did you clean your room? , Did he do his homework?, Have you read that book?, What kind of book have you read?,Has she finished yet?, what are you going to do the next monday?, Are you going to cook a delicious dinner?, Will he be there?.
@sosi43473 жыл бұрын
It is very easy you use if and the grmmar rules of reported speech
@sosi43473 жыл бұрын
Past simple turns into past perfect Ex: Did you clean your room? He wanted to know if I had cleaned my room .
@sosi43473 жыл бұрын
Present perfect turns into past perfect Ex: Have ypu read that book? He wondered if I had read the book,
@sosi43473 жыл бұрын
Be going to (present) changes into be going to (past) Ex: Are you going to eat dinner ? He asked if we were going to eat dinner.

Will changes into would Will you be there? He asked if we would be there ,

Thank you for lesson, I had the question from the student if we have to "report" the "reported speech" should we make any changes? "She said that he had been said that "Mark's mom was busy that day" or Mark's mom had been busy that day" the Direct speech of the 3rd part is Mark: "My mom is busy now."
