Awesome video! Thanks for the shout out, much appreciated. No definitely don't see that. I've seen snow flurries but that was back in 1989. I've seen ice on the roadway that same freeze. Seen ice on picnic benches when i camped one winter. Last week in Tallahassee they got 9 inches of snow! But that's around 100 miles north of me. I did get a frost last week. That intermodel was long! Loved it, the other one was good too. Erlanger is a good spot. Nice flag salute. Thanks for the video Brian stay well roll on and stay warm

9 inches of snow anywhere is a lot and especially in Tallahassee. A lot of records were set. Thanks for the Super Thanks! I'm getting ready for my trip back to Kenova tomorrow. Will probably also stop at Ashland, Ky on the way. I hope to get some coal trains. Thanks again Mark! Oh yeah, that intermodal with 2 DPUs was kind of unusual.

What's a red flag salute ?
@markuswx13225 сағат бұрын
@@lynnmcculloch-m4h NS needs to clarify this. Red flags are warning devices used by railroads. They are not, or at least should not be used for casual greetings. The normal meaning would be to warn of unsafe conditions, such as an observer who is too close to the tracks or is on restricted property.

3257 on the UN placard is "Elevated temperature liquid, n.o.s., at or above 100 °C and below its flashpoint (including molten metals, molten salts, etc.)" All I can add to that is "n.o.s." is short for "not otherwise specified" so while it may be hot it is not toxic, corrosive, or flammable. I've never seen a conductor wave a flag before. Thanks so much once again, JT. The man to go to when you want to see some trains. Awesome!

Are most of the covered hopper cars hauling grain? Down here in Addis, LA, most of the covered hopper cars are hauling plastic pellets. Some of have soy beans as the cargo. There is a large grain elevator in Port Allen that loads ocean going ships. But I rarely see covered hopper cars there.

This video is so much fun! I love depots. I've searched them out for years, wondering if I could film them. I love local historical stuff. Hadn't searched any yet. Just been to some. And only searched train sounds to sleep to. Then a couple of my friends that love trains- one of them really encouraged me to film them since I like them, too. I had no idea all of you all were out here doing this until a few months ago. It feels like everybody's chasing trains together. I love the documentation that I get to see of how different people enjoy enjoy life this way, and every train is technically different. I caught that operation lifesaver loco last week because I could hear the DPUs through the trees miles up the track and I was confused. Then I could hear them coming.... maybe a quarter of a mile down the way? I hyperfocused and I could see all of that mirage like hazy air around it coming toward us. Whoo-hoo! DPUs! Cool stuff!
@JawTooth7 сағат бұрын
Pretty cool. I like all the old stuff that has to do with trains. Train stations and cabooses are some of my favorite stuff. I agree that it's nice sleeping to train sounds. Staying in motels by the tracks is really fun. I have literally been to dozens of them. Last week I stayed in one with a view of the trains in Ashland, Kentucky. I need to put that video together. In the summer I camped by the tracks which I have done a bunch of times. There are a lot of railfans throughout the world. It's a really fun hobby. Another fun thing is to look at the rail and see when it was rolled. The dates are on the side. I know of 4 places where the rail was rolled in the late 1890s and still in use. Tomorrow I am going back to Kenova West Virginia. Thanks for watching my videos and have a great week Dawn!

Not sure why you say your camera isn't picking up the sounds of the DPU units, I sure hear them, sometimes screaming as they pass by!
@JawTooth22 сағат бұрын
Awesome! Glad it comes over. When I listen back to it I don't hear it as well
@HolidayDecorator22 сағат бұрын
@JawTooth if you listen on the camera microphone/speaker(usually one and the same) it's very difficult to hear them. Once I get home and get the video on my computer, then the sound clarity is much better, but out "in the field" as it is, and all the other outdoor sounds, a lot of the sounds are muted down by quite a bit when played back from the camera speaker, which, like stated earlier is usually also the microphone.
