In this latest video you will see how simple it is to make a cost effective, natural mosquito repellant (an original Paul Harvey recipe) that lasts all summer long...I had the goods on hand to do a triple recipe, but for an average city property, a single recipe will be perfect for a mosquito free summer at your home. Please comment any questions and thanks for watching, aliveafter55!!

NOT A JOKE! We have crazy nasty mosquitoes in Phoenix right now. I made this yesterday using the mist sprayer from Harbor Freight, and sprayed my entire large patio, driveway, and front walk. I then got a bit cocky and went out last night on the patio shirtless, scared out of my mind, but nothing happened. I stayed on the patio near the house at the dining table, and thoroughly enjoyed myself mosquito-free. GAME CHANGER! Thanks Paul Harvey! "PAGE TWO..."

That will be a test for sure!! Once you make it, apply when sun is up and mosquitoes are in their dark places. VERY IMPORTANT: substitute one non alcohol beer for one of the real beers. The Epsom salt will not dissolve in alcohol so mix the Epsom salt with the flat non alcohol beer before adding it to mint mouthwash and real beers. I just used NA beer cause that's what was on hand.

I had popped the tabs on the (regular) beer and had it sitting in cans inside the jug I'd be mixing it in. It was about a week before I had the opportunity to get back to it, so I wonder if in that time the alcohol dissipated? Anyway, I had a very easy time mixing the Epsom salt into just the beer alone, then added in the mouthwash. Wanted to put that out there for anyone who had regular beer around in case they didn't want to make a special purchase of the nonalcoholic type. Did not get bit once as I sprayed my whole yard (small but a lots o' mosquito property) so I'm hopeful this is a success.

Hi, I am living in the tropics. Getting Epsom salt is not easy, so I ordered it from USA anyway for my garden and bodycare (really expensive because of the extra delivery). The mouthwash costs about 7 dollar here. A can of beer costs like 50 cents, so this is the only cheap one. I think, you can replace the mouthwash by a solution with peppermint essential oil or even selfmade mint in alcohol, because it is the mint that is important. What I really don´t get, is the meaning of the beer. Beer attracs bugs. If I leave an half empty bottle over night, I always find it full of flies and bugs in the morning. So I really try to find out if I could replace the beer with water and alcohol and replace the mouthwasch with a mint-alc solution (like I use for my body against moscitos.) Also inside use with that sticky mouthwasch and beer would not be recomendable. :D Has anyone tried to modificate this reciept?
@aliveafter5589
@aliveafter5589 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. I grew up in Liberia, West Africa on the equator and the humidity and bugs were horrible when you got away from the ocean and salt breeze. The epson salt is probably very important. I personally did not originate this recipe, Paul Harvey did to my best knowledge unless someone here can find otherwise. I've used ovee a decade and it works great for me. Never modified it. I live in rural Tennessee and the humidity is bad here but the bugs are worse, as i often have told my wife. Maybe some of our viewers followers habe modified? Good luck and sorry about the cost, our world has gone mad everything is expensive now!!

Thanks for joining in, Carol. I've always enjoyed science, even as a little boy. Though your thought may seem logical, mosquitoes, in particular, the female, when ready to feed her babies, needs a blood meal. They have an acute sense of smell. Animals give off CO2, and that's the attraction. They can smell from far away. They have other ways to hone in but that's the 1st. The best I can explain, is mint concoction masks our CO2 plume and they hone in on another victim. This spray is not perfect, but it has heloed our family alot. The combination of the other 2 is interesting. Im guessing that the stickiness from beer/salt combo helps it stay longer and maybe preserve the smell longer? Just a guess.

Hey Paul. Thanks for sharing this recipe. I moved into my new property a home that I built. Little did I know that I have a pond beside me. Last summer, we couldn’t bear sitting on the lanai. This year. I waged a war on mosquitoes. In April 2024 I saw a video online where a gentleman was showing how he killed millions of mosquitoes. I basically bought four black pails. Then went online on Amazon and bought the mosquito dunks. I placed all four pails on the perimeter of the property. I then purchased mosquito barrier and I have sprayed three times. The mosquito dunks in the pales is basically killing the ecosystem of the mosquitoes. It’s like neutering, a dog and cat. We have had over a dozen barbeques in our backyard by the poolside. And all I hear is where are the mosquitoes. Something you may want to try. I am going to go and purchase your items tomorrow and I will get back to you on my report, as the mosquito barrier that I purchase is very expensive. But it does work.

Couldn't you simply just spray it on yourself / your clothes? Seems like that'd be perfectly safe to do (don't get it in your eyes though) and would accomplish the same thing, and in that way, you'd also be able to really stretch out your supply of it. Also for some people, it may actually make them smell better. ( ;

I was wondering if it's safe to spray on our clothes or bodies too. We soak in Epsom salts but rinse it off afterwards usually. Mouthwash goes in our mouths so doesn't seem like it could harm skin, maybe the dye in it would stain clothing. Stale beer isn't going to do any harm except smell like stale beer.

This is a killer not a repellent, as title states. The beer has yeast and sugar, which releases carbon which attracts them and sugar water to feed, epson kills them. Morning and night dew reactivates the residue to start all over again. Mosquitos drink a lot of water in summer to survive

It was literally hindering my productivity and I was covered in bites. I sprayed the entire perimeter of the house yesterday, under the gutter, and under the deck and porch and inside the garage etc. I spent ALL day outside yesterday and only saw 5 mosquitoes the entire day. They’re virtually gone. And it even rained yesterday three times! Usually that makes it worse. They’re gone!! Side note I found mint Epsom salts, I know mint is a pest deterrent so I went with that.
