Adam, this is what I did tonight for hash browns that is a little different from your method (which is really good). Shred the raw potatoes and put them in already boiling salted water with 1 tablespoon of vinegar (which semi-sets the pectin) for 1 minute, then drain, cool, season, and shape patties. The hashbrowns get nice and crispy and it takes a lot less time. Thanks for the inspiration to innovate!
@Adam_Garratt4 жыл бұрын
Awesome! I like that method John
@jonberger20572 жыл бұрын
*etherdog* Boiling the shredded potatoes results in a lot of the nutrients being leeched out into in boiling water. A better way is to boil the whole potato & then grate it.

You are the only presenter I have watched (so far) who has par cooked the spuds, and your method looks like the best option. Potatoes will have to be what I have on hand, but I think that will still be okay. Someone once said that crappy food was better than no food at all. Have you (or any of the other commenters) tried cooking these in an Air Fryer?

Adam, perhaps you could do a vid on the different varieties of potatoes in the UK and their characteristics. I think your US audience would be particularly interested. He we generally only see Russets, Yukon Gold, and red, but I grow Kennebecs because they have a better flavor and texture for fries/chips, and are kind of like a Maris Piper.
@Adam_Garratt4 жыл бұрын
Good idea John. Funny, because we don't see the russet or yukon gold potato here. I'd like to try both. Most supermarkets here will have at least 4 potato varieties, and maybe 3 or 4 new potato varieties. But there's 100s of varieties grown here. But about 80 grown commercially

I think I’ll have em with what you call bangers and eggs!!! 😋🤤 Thanks again!!!! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 xx P.S. ..... I’m sure the celery salt added some extra flavor!😉👍🏽
@Adam_Garratt4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Gaile. Ah yes love a good banger. Interesting fact for you. The difference between a banger and a sausage is that bangers contained hardly any meat, so couldn't be called a sausage. A banger used to be served to the front line troops, and because of the unsavoury dodgy ingredients, they often used to explode in the pan. Hence the term banger. We hardly see bangers these days, as brits have a much more demanding palate, and we love a good proper sausage 😂😉

The mix is quite delicate. Freezing them for a while helps keep them together more so when they hit the hot oil, they are less likely to fall apart. 😊
