First cut the exiting split ends , then condition your hair with a deep conditioner and long term protective hair styles like mini braids or twist can help you retain length . Also you have to make sure your hair is in a protein moisture balance . Sometimes your hair breaks because you lack protein ( do a protein treatment if it has being long you did one ) sometimes your hair lacks moisture ( try moisturizing twice a week ) using the LCO method ( liquid creams and oil )

Stretching your hair will Help you avoid single strand knots which always lead to breakage at the ends of your hair , hence split ends .try to stretch your hair using a blow dryer or African thread., or even braids
