FOLKS! Thanks for tuning into SCRAMBLED O!
This weekend I figured I would share a quick video on how I set up my shelter for the outdoors. I like the hammock and tarp much more than sleeping on the ground and the set up is easy as 1..2..3.. LOL. 3 KNOTS is ALL YOOOOOU NEED!

In case you didn't know using paracord or rope to hold your hammock up can actually cut into the tree killing it or damaging it. I suggest getting some atlas straps.

Good job on the knots, you might want to check out some tree straps (kinder to trees) and try the tauntline hitch (kinder to your teeth). liking your vids, keep it scrambled!

Don Milligan you are right man. Once I realized it was biting into the tree I stuck a dead piece of cedar in between the paracord and the living tree. I will have to pay more attention to the tree next time and see if that is causing any damage... straps seem like a quick and easy way to do it, but I try to limit what I keep in my pack. I will definitely look into that knot. My dentist would like that haha. Thanks for the input, I appreciate it Don.

PiDGE IAM One thing i have realized is that it is rather rough on the bark to use paracord, so i am gonna switch to another cordage or sling system. Thanks for watching PidGe!

I paused this at 2 seconds. Went away, came back later an thought it was a close up of a nutty chocolate bar! Been on the new year's diet for two long methinks ... If you take a lighter to the paracord and melt the ends it won't fray, and will please the finikity amongst us ...

Great tutorial. Not one to think there's any right or wrong way to achieve the same outcome. Just curious as to why you choose cord over straps. I've been using ratchet straps (with the hooks and ratchets cut off) since I've started hammocking. Rated to the same weight limit, they're typically lighter and pack smaller, and they provide the added benefit of protecting the tree by distributing the weight over a larger area. Even if that's not a concern of a particular camper, I've been to several sites that won't allow cord for this reason and advise "tree friendly" options. I find them incredibly easy to work with -no knots necessary. Just wondering, is there a reason you prefer cord?

This guy reminds me of that guy that is so excited to get pancakes on that hotel commercial with the muslim leprechaun . . . The knot you say is similar to a Bowline is called a Figure 8 Loop… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Figure-eight_loop Your next knot is the Halter Hitch or with an extra turn is the Siberian Hitch… NotableKnotIndex.webs.com/haltersiberian.html Your last knot seems to be a variation off the Adjustable Grip Hitch… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adjustable_grip_hitch

Scrambled....what are your thoughts on the eno hammock? Single or double? Also, what tarp is that? I currently use a basic Walmart tarp and a 20.00 hammock. Lookin' to upgrade....thanks.
@ScrambledO
@ScrambledO 9 жыл бұрын
WoodsTrekka' This is the doublenest. I don't think I could sleep with another person in it. I feel like you would probably need to use the official ENO hammock straps to secure it super tight to the trees or else it would stretch too much and would be uncomfortable. It is an Egret 10x12 nylon tarp... A bit large for what I like to do. I will be looking for a smaller size if I can get a good price on one. I used several wal mart tarps before investing in this one... Just needed something more packable and lightweight. Thanks for watching WoodsTrekka!

Like the knots - they work great for the tarp - but get some low cost, low weight 1" tree straps to use around the tree for your hammock. There's no reason to risk damage to the trees you, and everyone to follow, enjoy. Yeah, I see the disclaimer that you placed at the beginning of the vid - good. For those wondering how cheap and easy it is to make straps, here's one example of many different ways that to make tree straps and use with paracord for less than $5. Maybe you, Scrambled, could do a new vid on how you'd make and use straps - that would be a great subject. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmWvdaGol72rfLM
