Bs quiz :) I am always good at cashgames until i fuck it up lol, not objective however something else that is more important, I don't agree with you to value bet and wanting your opponent to call always... It's always better to take down a smaller pot rather than to risk still losing the hand/pot. Your opponent can easily upgrade his hand, if not they wouldn't have called in the 1st place, you gotta make em pay to see the turn or river, I like that approach much more. It's same with question if you bet when you got a lower pair on the flop, considering it's not HU. I always bet, cuz if you don't you can lose the hand later on by opponents that make a hand.

Neel, I agree no river, no fish. Get em out and take it down when your out of position. If your in position and the draws are not on the board and the preflop action dictates his range is limited as compared to the board, and your stack (and your emotional esteem) then string him a long. Assuming he is a straightforward player and he didn’t check his aces pre-flop or something. It’s safe to say, you don’t know the table for the first hour, you won’t know most of the individual players until the 7-10th hand played.

Hey Jonathan. The quick note you made about bet sizing in the value betting section has been very helpful. I noticed that I was betting too large for value on every street. The words that stuck out were that I was forcing my opponents to play well. I'm very confident that's what was happening. My bets were only allowing hands that had good equity to continue, and I was folding out all hands that I was well ahead of. I've adjusted my sizing, and it's been helping a lot. Not only am I getting to showdown against worse hands more often, but I haven't committed as many chips by the river when the flush comes in and they put in a big raise. Anyways, thanks!

So last month I asked 3 of my friends who are semi-pro poker players who they would recommend as a good coach as I look to step up my cash game stakes from $2/5 to $5/10, and they unanimously said "Jonathan Little". So, here I am. Excellent content so far. I look forward to some deeper lessons once I sign up for your masterclass!

I'm referring to your T9 spades on the button example. I guess based on your logic of how to play the river with this hand against the bet, and now has me kind of questioning whether we should have been playing this hand at all. On the flop we called the bet because you thought we wanted to hit a flush. Same on the turn. The river we make our hand and now we don't like our hand enough to raise when we are pretty sure that we have the best hand. it kind of makes me question whether we should have been calling those bets with this draw to begin with. I'm not trying to be negative or critical i appreciate the video also.

Totally on board with this comment. We also have to have in mind that even the best cash low live players aren't folding any two pair or better on this run out. (Low stakes). And we have the third best possible hand. Pretty happy to put all my chips in here. If he triple barrels with the NFD or 2NFD he is not as tight as we think he is. This line on most TAG low stakes live cash game villains is KJ and sets. IMO

JL likes to say to call with your sc's if you are getting 20 to 1 implied odds. Some people wonder, yeah, but can we really expect to get 20 times our pre call? In this hand, we called 7 and opponents put in 246. We won 35 times our pre call playing passively. Imagine if we were in a situation where we could be aggressive.
@aaronclark007
@aaronclark007 5 жыл бұрын
In this hand you start off defining their range pretty wide, but the flop and turn bets narrow their range substantially (including: aces, ak, kq, kt which will not bet this river, but also sets, kj, nut flush draws, and bluffs like qt or even AQ with the A of spades). We are still ahead of most opponents bets on this river bet and have a very profitable call, but not enough of those hands that we beat will call the raise. This doesn't mean we wouldn't bet this river if they checked!

That $60 bet into like $360 on river with K9 is exactly the kind of bets I see at my games, and I'm always tempted to raise it as a bluff except I don't because I've seen those same guys then call with K9.
@handianus
@handianus 5 жыл бұрын
I do think the donkbet (leading into preflop aggressor on the flop) is underrated at low stakes, I try not to do it (because you basically have much less information about what the other guy is thinking if you lead and so the chance of bluffing away your whole stack by the river goes up) but I think it works way too often in small stakes, people just love to fold, most of them. I don't know tho, I really will try and pay attention to that. Maybe everyone's just adjusted by now since I last played.

In the 10s high flush vs the set of jiggities hand, I read his (too large) river bet size of 150 as putting you on AK or KJ, looking for value. I'd only call a passive player - I'd raise the action guy hoping he's a dummy that's in love with his set.

Where are you playing 1/2 with people who open to 7? In Detroit, the standard raise is 10-15 dollars. It makes the game super easy to play because they constantly create 3-5 SPR spots with hands that want at least 7 or greater.
@scbluesman13
@scbluesman13 5 жыл бұрын
The card rooms I play regularly in California it's the same thing. In the $1/2 NL games, the standard open is usually $12. In the $2/5 game the standard open is usually $18-25.
@jasonbatteiger2421
@jasonbatteiger2421 5 жыл бұрын
that varies game by game, i've seen 7 be somewhat standard for maybe at least 40% or around that of any given 1-2 game. it would/should also vary by buy in. if a game has a 200 (or the more rare 100) cap on a 1-2 game rather than 300 cap (probably also standard) 7 vs 12-15 opening bet is much much better as it allows for much more SPR play.

Just come across this as im moving from 25NL online to 1/2 live cash games. In the example with K9o, you're assuming that players are 3betting KTs+ and KQo and folding KTo-KJo from the SB vs a BTN raise right? The thing I've seen a lot at 25NL is players will more often than not flat with these hands from the SB, and call down all 3 streets when rhe BTN takes that line. So is the solution either to open a slightly tighter range on the BTN if you know the players in the blinds are over-calling, or to play the same opening range but to play hands like your weaker top pairs more passively?

Fort McDowell opened and a 44 year old Kirby salesman immediately hit four figures and jackpots above the schedule my casino manager friend from 70s Vegas was now whispering in my ear . So many hours average till jackpot. Plus I'm bringing home cash game money at whim. If I don't catch a 12 hand win I feel cheated . Now I'm a shark. I literally could tell yer wallet worth or account worth to a dime. I'm not just a Kirby man....I'm a good Kirby man. Very lucky. Rags to riches . Black sheep gets back at his childhood by rolling up to the family cabin in a white leather Lincoln with a suitcase full of cash. I recommend it . Made me feel great as I was blackballed out of the Masons...by my brother . Voted least likely to enter the light or ever see the light. Subliminally. So I detoured and am a card carryng kriyaban ... Very rare. Very difficult one in a billion kinda thing. I rocket sled blasted to the top and was awarded honors by my Gurdiev Ouspenski #1 if the teacher and voted conscious being. He finally printed his auto bio. After he unlocked me and u walked away from death bone infections and dialysis and recovered . He was my death counselor ....so he printed five books and gave me one. Why after 7 years of miracles...I learn he was president of AIG before he became a Zen master . Gave it all up. Trillions. Jeez ? So with extreme luck I go on 20 year hiatus after a five figure win. So what do you do AFTER enlightenment. Well dopey do something you enjoy... I enjoy poker. So back to the garden..the advantage player is a real phenomenon. It's like nazis . After the Nazis you either develop their national social agenda or else. Or else yer a blithering idiot waiting for Jesus to come back while the new nazis aren't in panzers they are tying us up with the treaty of Paris 1957. And a hundred others that have almost lost our sovereignty through taking the easy way. And bribes and sex extortion now content the world. So what do you do with an advantage player . You develop your own superior advantage . The key word is develop. Every dollar I ever lost was worth the lesson. Then my partner died. I hit a big jackpot and retired . So it's not the same not sitting next to one of the most dangerous men in the world. Mel was 6'2" 450 pounds if Russian Jew. Tough as nails and like to here bones break and screams. But he only had one leg I had a wheelchair van. And we were both completely nuts. It was like sitting next to the devil. He always knew what to do next and took control. He was a big shot with Chrysler and was whispering in Iacocas ear ...I guess they helped Chrysler. But he would slug it out for his hundred dollar win and I would win a jackpot on the table on a machine or However. And it was more often than not happy days. Then he checked my percentages and said look you gotta horseshoe up yer ass.... Seriously that's what he said . It started to occurr to me mist people in the table have never hit a jackpot. I have 31.In 4 years. I'm hitting 70-75% of the time and not losing too much. I won a free wheelchair van and money was great. I have a socialite girl from Snottsdale and she's turning into a poker widow. She can't abide a smoke and avoids casinos. So when Jerry Seinfeld started we became Jerry and Elaine and when it ended so did we. So she became a spy master and moved away.. I was a low level spy. And I just dont like being anyones dupe. So 12 years in a Tibetan cave and here I am still liking poker. I used to not feel alive unless I was at a table . I was obsessed with playing live. Days on a table watching shifts go by. Outlasting everyone. I was the jack master of table 12.

That said I do better buying in minimum because I love to suck out and if I play right with a little stack I’ll fold too much and put myself on tilt. Should I buy in min at the 300-1000 and hit and run? Till I build a bank roll or continue playing lesser players who always see a river? Thanks

It's the 6 P's Position Potential (hand strength etc.) Profitability (stack sizes/how much I can win) Pot odds Player (who's in the pot who's left to act) Previous action This may not help the average thinking player but a person like me I need a way to remember everything preflop so I don't get myself into bad situation postflop.

I only played live cash 3 times, when I was first learning poker. I lost but only a little. I did well for a newbie. Here I am, many months later, and I know my game has improved. I am also working through your Cash Game Masterclass, which is great. However, I am getting crushed on the PokerBros app. Do you know anything about this app? People are very splashy and very LAG. I've had the worst bad beats. It has hurt my confidence and wallet. Do you think if I stink on PokerBros I will stink LIVE? lol any advice. hope you see this. I know you must be busy.

For the demostration at the 22 minute mark, is it not better to raise your opponent? Since if he folds, you will still win his 150 either way and it will even better because he/other players won't get to see your cards

Love the first slide. I would say my $550 profit playing 1/3 last night would have been closer to $800 if I value bet more on rivers when ops are calling down. Sometimes when 1 str or fl card comes in, I check behind whereas a small value bet/fold strategy would have earned me chips several times. It's so tempting to want to realise your equity without risking more chips whilst avoiding a large potential check/raise. Who wants to face a massive raise when you have top two or trips and be put in a real spot. I have made more 1/3 pot bets on rivers in these situations lately from watching your videos, which sets the price but has also been definitely profitable overall when I have a strong hand. The other thing is, when you don't value bet strong hands on rivers, the stronger players notice your timidity and likely work in some big raises to take advantage of you.
@gracejoyramirez6524

thats interesting , against good opponents who think 1/3 size is weakish and bluffraise or even value raise a weaker hands it is good to trap them by going thin for value as most of the times they will either call a weaker hand or bluffraise which you then can snap off

So I was just in a hand in a tournament with 25 blinds left...middle position player limps in...I limp in on the cut off with 89 hearts.. Sb calls...Bb checks. Flop Kh Qh 7h. Sb and bb check..middle position player bets 8 blinds, I raise 2x or 16 blinds...sb folds bb calls initial raiser (middle position) folds....turn card 6h...bb leads out to cover my 8 remaining blinds. I call figuring even if he has the A or J of hearts i still have the open ended str8 flush outs. He rolls over 10d Jh and i miss on river. Should i have jammed the flop to try and fold out any Ah or Jh or value raised as i did and keep those ranges in ? I'm thinking even if i jammed the flop the J high draw was gonna call anyway. Then again with 3 hearts on the flop and me holding 2 hearts it seems too unlikely another heart would be coming enough times for me to fold out the ace or jack draws. Also folding the turn bet for my last 8 blinds is the wrong play there I hope.

If you’re Cbetting K9 in the first hand, you’re cbetting too much and leaving yourself open to being exploited when you check back the flop. Keeping a junky top pair in your flop check back range protects your range and stops villain donking turn and river with their entire range. Perfect hand for 2 streets. Check flop, bet turn & river. Or call down turn and river if donked to.

In that flush example hand: how are you calculating your equity with made hands...so in this case, ten high flush. Obviously we can calculate the pot odds and we'd always want equity percentage to be higher than pot odds percentages for +EV plays so in this case, it was the flush draw and gut shot so about 12 outs but I'm just a little confused about how to calculate our equity on made hands?

You make examples based on low probability to justify bad calls. 13:55 The opponent has the nut advantage and the range advantage. He makes a pot bet, so you fold. You call if the villain bets < ½ pot bet! Unless your name is Jonathan Little and you can determine what the river will be. The chance for a spade each round is < 20% and you also loose to spades with an Ace. This is manipulating results to rectify bad calls.

Lesson number one is don't be bankrolled for less than 20 buy-ins. Lesson number 2 is don't use rent/bills money as bankroll. Lesson number 3 is you can be on a losing streak even if you're playing better than your opponents because the game is highly dependent on RNG.
