I know this was sarcasm but I'm going to say it anyway because people are always saying this unironically. Changing the key is not a variant it's a key change. It grinds my gears so heard when I hear "it starts on the 13th fret" unless you want to play it in a different key then it would start on a different fret wouldn't it now.

Fun Fact: "The official metal chord progresion" is actually called the Andalusian Cadence, it really gives a different vibe depending on what instrument you play it in. On flamenco guitar (an instrument from the genre the chord progression is from) and piano it sounds passionate and melancholic, but on metal guitar it gives such POWER it's crazy.
