Great tip on the power banks. I've been running one on my Garmin Virbs for 5 yrs. Nothing like letting the cameras record for up to 7 1/2 hours. It cuts down on messing around looking for batteries in the stand, and not missing something because your camera was off.

After having a few remote failures on my gopros I switched to using "max loop" setting with a 256GB card and plug them into a big batter bank. Start recording before light and all day long. If something happens cool, I have 6-7 hours to stop the recording to preserve the footage. I never miss action because it is always recording. Saving up for a 360. Thanks for all the great content!

I know what you mean. I feel the same way. I personally would have taken him. Yes it’s not a 140+ class deer but being a sportsman isn’t Always about taking the biggest deer. The small buck doesn’t have a great chance of making it through the winter even In Nebraska. And plus he’s gonna hunt how many other states this year?? Can’t take a small buck to take it out of its misery???? Kinda upset me a little bit to be honest.

Deer can survive some incredible injuries. There are very few times I’d recommend shooting a deer just to put it out of its misery. I’ve seen deer with legs blown clear off survive a full year. Unless it’s got head trauma or internal bleeding, their odds of surviving are better with a leg injury than they are with an arrow through them.

@@johndarling6604 Deer are tough as shit but that little bucks quality of life was pretty clear watching that video. Would yield a little less meat than a bigger deer he could end up harvesting, but as a sportsman, if you see that in the woods, you take the shot.

I’d like to finally get a more professional camera, but the GH5 and Sony x80 are getting hard to find. Far more capable than GoPro with the ability to run up to 5 cams with a single remote button, much better battery life, especially when using a remote and more features for the outdoorsman. Many don't know how capable Tactacam 5.0 and 5.0 Wide really can be, especially for the price when considering numerous angles.

It's not uncommon to see injured deer in the wild. Although I can't answer why Greg didn't attempt a harvest on this particular deer, I can tell you Greg has burned tags over the years on injured deer, when he could have used the tag for trophy hunting. I've been bow hunting with Greg a long time, I'm his dad. I truly don't know a more ethical hunter/sportsman.

@@saylorclements7484 I understand that it is common to see wounded deer, I have hunted for a long time. To me it’s an ethnics question. I have seen wounded deer and been frustrated that I couldn’t legally do the right thing. That’s why I am asking if the buck was legal. I understand that coyotes and bobcats and cougars have to eat too. I may be projecting my own values. I have always felt motivated to do the right thing. When I have the opportunity to end an animals suffering, I do it. I greatly respect THP guys and wish them the best.
@TheHuntingPublic
@TheHuntingPublic 3 жыл бұрын
There seems to be a number of people concerned about why I didn’t shoot the buck with the bad leg so I thought I’d explain my thoughts. While I hated to see the buck with an injury, it was not something I felt would cause him a slow, painful death, or would even be fatal in the first place. I’ve seen deer survive much worse. For example, when I was working on a deer research project I tracked a radio-collared buck that had a similar injury. He couldn’t put weight on one of his hind legs and while the leg muscle atrophied over time, I tracked the deer for 3 years until his radio-collar eventually quit working. Besides limping, the deer acted normally. I also observed a doe for multiple years that only had 3 legs. One of her hind legs was somehow severed at the joint (possibly from being hit by a tractor mower as a fawn?). She also acted normal and raised fawns. So those kinds of injuries are not a death sentence for deer by any means. They are incredibly tough animals. If I do have an opportunity at a deer that has an injury that I feel will ultimately be fatal I will shoot it and use my tag on it. Years ago I was bowhunting in Nebraska after gun season and had a small buck approach my stand that was limping badly. As I glassed him I noticed the wound appeared to have exposed bone, was severely swollen, and probably infected. I quickly decided to shoot that buck and used my tag on him. While it’s unfortunate the buck has an injury, it’s not one that’s so severe that I felt I should shoot him because I thought he would die from it. I definitely should have conveyed what I was thinking better in the video.

Greg, can you go into a little more detail about the Sony Action camera you use as well as the headgear...With a bad back I have a hard time lugging in a lot of heavy camera gear so a good action camera may just be the ticket to still filming my hunts...Thanks!

I found myself wondering if you considered putting that badly injured deer out of its misery . . .

My thoughts exactly they set a huge example on new hunters and in my opinion the best ethical option would've been put that guy out of his suffering but there more concerned about antlers on the wall not what id call an ethical hunter by any means
