When it first started I was like is this gonna be 3 minutes of her repeating the same thing slowly 3 times... because it could have been one minute.... but by the end of the video I am in love with the clarity, information, guidance and gentle humor, left me wiser and with a smile on my face. Great video!

Thanks for watching. If a Guide repeats something it’s pretty important. Stay safe. Fair winds and full bellies.

Not a chick, but a Guide. We’re all pretty intense, when it comes to returning with the same gear we left with. Thanks for watching!

Current flow pushing against the bottom can speed you if balance is forward when going downstream. If you are working upstream weight forward will cause the current to split at the bow and make progress easier.

Hi Lisa, Thanks for all of the great tips! I have a question in regards to the gear line attachment - You have one end of the rope attached to the yoke and then the gear is attached along the length of the rope with knots and carabiners. What’s happening at the other end of that rope? Is it attached to the boat or does it terminate at the last carabiner and piece of gear? Thank you.
@Mainepolingguide
@Mainepolingguide 3 жыл бұрын
Tyerel, it ends at the last piece of gear. The rope connects to the boat at the portage yoke only. That’s so the gear floats up and you begin ferrying the gear from the LAST piece connected to the line and work our way towards the portage yoke. Now, the heaviest pice of gear forward of that yoke, I do like to connect both sides of that box or barrel to the boat to keep it from floating free, because it displaces A LOT of water in the event of a wrap, but make sure you can free it if you have to…it’s usually food. See the next episode on how to free the gear. All the best. Lisa

Hello Lisa, do you work 1:1 with women who want to prepare for their guide exam? I realize there are schools in Maine and that's certainly an option, but I love your style and would love to learn more. Been a longtime goal of mine. Thanks!

I didn't realize putting buoyant things like the box below the thwart is dangerous as it could blow out the thwart. Is attaching everything to the center yoke also not dangerous? Wouldn't it break the center yoke?
@3_Minutes_With_a_Maine_Guide
@3_Minutes_With_a_Maine_Guide 6 ай бұрын
No, not dangerous to attach that gear line to the centerthwart as long as no gear is directly underneath because when that bottom does collapse, you will blow out that thwart, I’ve seen it but no attaching things to the center is fine a good ash portage yoke, in good shape, will hold it all
@escaped7036
@escaped7036 6 ай бұрын
@@3_Minutes_With_a_Maine_Guide Ok thanks. In a tip I guess everything will fall out and the attachment to center just keeps it all together and prevents it from floating away while the boat is righted.
