Excellent tutorial. I've learned a lot about SinS system. I love my ruler which I bought from you and have several of your books already. Now, I'm ready to make my quilts! Yay.

Excellent! Do it and send pics on Facebook if you can. I am trying to put one or more tutorials on per week. Keep watching and let me know if you want me to make a video about a certain topic. Remember we are always ready to help at anytime.

Great video. Can you demonstrate how to make the mini quilts using the square in a square ruler?

I am worried about the bias cuts. Is that a issue when sewing the bias sides together?

You can cut straight strips or bias strips - for over 35 years we have cut straight strips as they are easier but feel free to cut bias strips. Once you actually get into the system, you will see and understand. Be sure and watch all of our videos and you will see how our quilts lay flat and the pieces go together easily like legos.

I love this system & want to get it asap. Only one thing is a bit "off putting" to me... The "human element". The main thing I love about quilts & quilting is thepersonal, human element. Of course, I understand what Jodi means but I wish there could be a different way to reference it.

Glad you are loving the system. We have to come to grips with our own Personal Private Measurements which includes the cutting, sewing and pressing plus our sewing machine. Once we know things that affect our personal sewing, we can make adjustments.

Another great video with useful tips! Do you use a smaller rotary cutter just as a personal preference or do you find it gives more accuracy?

Here is what works for me; unless you are cutting 4 layers of fabric or more, the smaller size (28mm) is the best one for me. I think you have more control with your cutting, less blade to hurt yourself with (or others - when I am demonstrating in front of a crowd at a show, people get excited and start putting their fingers in my demo area - no one has ever been hurt but I think about that). Also, when you need to change your blade, it is less expensive - I change blades all the time. Accuracy, safety and economical would be my 3 reasons. I do use the 45mm when I am cutting kits because of the extra layers I am cutting.

I love this process and really enjoyed your presentation at our guild. I have a question about the strips though. I thought they were always cut to 1/2 the width of the center block. But the ines you used in the flying geese demo, appear to be a bit more narrow on two of the sides. Was that purposeful or does it maybe inky apply to the flying geese option. Thanks in advance Jodi!! I'm hooked on this. Just got my first Mailly Women book too

The strip size is always 1/2 of the cut center square plus 1/4" up to a 5" center square; if 5" or larger, use 1/2 of the cut center square plus 1/2". The strip size is the same for cutting the flying geese. Remember though that for flying geese and half square triangles to do the Texas two step trim at the appropriate time. Let me know if you have questions. Thanks for watching; glad you are hooked!

Jodi Barrows Do you have a chart for all the measurements? I have your ruler but get confused on what size to cut my blocks and strips. If it came with my ruler it is lost 😖. Please reply to pat.vanderwater@gmail.com
