Some tips if you plan to take this trip:
-Keep jewelry to a minimum for Micos Island as they will grab at anything shiny
- Do not apply any bug spray to your body until after Micos Island to help protect the monkeys. We did treat our clothing with a repellent before leaving the US and that is safe for them and will protect you as well.
-Bring a hat and apply sunscreen
-We highly suggest packing a bag with water bottles and a few snacks. It is a long day on the boat and there is only a quick lunch stop. I wish we had been a little better prepared with some snacks.
-Bring some cash for tipping the tribe, buying ice waters, cold drinks, and any gifts you may want to purchase along the way
We were so saddened to see the erosion take out the main dock in Puerto Narino. We are still in shock with how quickly the community rallied together to move the floating dock to a safe place and helped to lay new walkways for the community and its visitors to continue their plans. Young men still in school uniforms were hauling logs and digging out walkways, the locals all used their boats to help move things around and the water edge and we were so humbled to watch this community work quickly and happily together. It is an experience we will not soon forget.
We cannot wait to get back to Leticia with the whole family and spend more time with this fantastic community.
