Do you like Weezer? I like Weezer. Did you know Weezer formed on Valentine’s Day in 1992? I never have anyone to celebrate on Valentine’s Day (because I like Weezer and it scares people away) but I get to celebrate Weezer. Weezer is probably the greatest thing to happen to me. Do you like Weezer? Anyways so the history behind Weezer is actually really interesting, it’s kind of funny actually, the person who brought Weezer together wasn’t even in Weezer. Did you know that? His name is Patt Finn, he collected the Weezer members like Pokémon pretty much. So basically, Patt Finn met Karl Koch in middle school I believe? And Karl Koch is more an honarary member, but still. So basically he met Matt Sharp when he went to university in a different state, but when he returned home to be with family he met Patrick Wilson, who he immediately connected with (not surprising, they share a name and a birthday) and Patt Finn convinced him to quit his job at the music store he was working at (where he taught kids) and move to LA to join the music scene. He got a job at a record store there, I’m blanking on the name, it was the same record store that the man himself, Rivers Cuomo, worked at. The Patts had been making music together for a while, they’d done a project based off TMBG, I think sometimes Matt Sharp would join in. Patt Finn introduced these 3. Eventually, Rivers approached Patt Finn and asked him if he wanted to join this band where he’d be like a DJ or something stupid. Patt Finn was like “no shot you got (some dude I forgot his name?) in your band. I hate that dude.” He actually ended up in a band with that dude later. But not the one Rivers proposed. He told rivers he would make music with him, but only on his own accord. Anyway, Rivers was pretty upset cause Patt Finn also criticized a lot of his current music and gave him suggestions on making it better. But it was chill cause he probably needed that push. So Rivers started making music with Patt Wilson, they started their 50 song project, which I think Matt Sharp would join in on sometimes. Matt Sharp kind of just hung around. I think he would crash on peoples couches. Weird guy, did you know he met his current girlfriend when she was 16? He was in his like, 30s? 40s? Anyway, this was before all that. Patt Finn moved bakc to family and there he met Jason Cropper, and convinced him to move to LA, when they got back, they formed a band, 60 Wrong Sausages with Rivers, Patt Finn, Patt Wilson, and Jason Cropper. Rivers’s’s’ heart wasn’t in it, so he quit that pretty fast. Later he formed a band with Jason Cropper, Patt Wilson, Matt Sharp, and himself, Rivers Cuomo. So, they started making music, eventually making some tapes, which Rivers would write his childhood nickname on, Weezer. WEEZER!!! They eventually made the Kitchen Tape, then they got to officially recording the Blue Album, during the recording Jason got his girlfriend pregnant and Rivers was a bit of a jerk (complete asshole) who didn’t want a member who would put his family over the band so he kicked him out real quick. Anyway they replaced him with Brian Bell, which was chill for like .. 30 years? Until he got caught talking to minors and such. Anyway, Patt Finn basically created Weezer. Actually, when Matt Sharp left, I’m pretty sure he was asked to come play with the band, but ultimately did not get the role of bassist, as Rivers had been looking at Mikey Welsh (RIP GOAT) for some time. He was never told this, though. He kind of just had to figure it out.
