I know for a fact that there are so many similar stories that are untold due to a taboo negative effect in our community. It just gets shoved underneath the rug, and the relatives just say they will talk to the perpetrator to stop. SMH. Mama, please protect your girls and hold them tight. If this happened in Laos, bet you the so called "cov coj" in Hmong's kangaroo courts won't let anything happen to the husband and his family because Hmong always back the strong, the wealthy and the one with most relatives. The most that will happen is butcher a pig with the excuse of "hu plig" but in reality, it's just a feast for "cov coj" and everyone including the husband. Yet, most Hmong, including women, still love this tradition and the tradition of niam loj niam yau. Yet, Hmong women say they can live without a man. But 2-3 Hmong women are willing to marry 1 man.
