People never realized that Rakim was just flowing like Early Kool Moe Dee in a different voice. Mo D doesn't get his credit for how influential he was on rappers leading up to 86-87'

What song was Kool Moe Dee rapping like that?

@Raymond Carter quite a few. Moe D and T LA Rock were some of the most advanced rappers of all time. They're the ones who actually made rappers step the lyrics up. They're the ones who made Rakim come out the way he did. "Gotta Rock" by The Treacherous 3 is one of the most lyrical songs of the early 80s. Let me not forget how lyrically advanced "The Fearless Four" were in the early to mid 80s.

@Raymond Carter "It's Yours" By T LA Rock was actually the turning point in NYC for lyrics. In Brooklyn alone, there were 5 percenters doing the knowledge lyrically from 82' through 88.' Rakim was just the one who got with the radio powerhouses of the day. Eric B. was a very influential radio promoter for WBLS in the early days while Mister Magic and DJ Marley Marl had the WBLS airwaves with "The Rap Attack" mix show. It was the perfect storm for an elevated lyricist to blow. Rakim was in the right place at the right time. But he wasn't the first lyrical giant out there. That's why he spent so much time in Brooklyn. He got his whole style and look from here.

@@bignardo95 I'm familiar with 'Its yours'....I kinda hear similarities in the Cadence a little. Still Rakim sounds like hes rapping "TO" you, La Rock, Moe Dee and everyone before Ra sounded like they are Rappping "AT'" you, it sounded so much more performative which worked in the park jam era. I think Rakims voice has alot to do with it to.

I was a LL.nut at first, like you said, then this dude showed up rapping like that. I thought he was Eric B. at first. But the way Rakim sandwich them lyrics together😮. I said this is the coldest rapper. At that time!
