There is 1 HUGE reason to plant a food plot, and several reasons not to. So many deer hunters have missed the boat on their overall food plot planting strategy. Here is how to make sure that you stay on target for the true priority of food plotting for this deer season...
*Our 14 WHS Seed Blends are available for purchase right now, including all of our deer hunting blends! Check out our new seed blend website....

*Would you like to make sure that you have an outstanding food plot planting strategy for this deer hunting season? You should check out my books, seed, rut web class, podcasts and hundreds of deer strategy articles:

You should look into adding video to your podcast.

Boy I wish we had the time John...we have a hard time even fitting in the podcast itself. Shooting videos 50 days per year...publishing 208 videos for KZbin...traveling over 100 days for clients...planting over 20 acres of food plots and over 20 acres of switchgrass and pollinator blends...running an exploding seed company...creating videos and content for sponsors...I'm already stretched too thin, unfortunately. It may be something we do in the future but I need to cut my client #s by quite a bit first. Add in family, life, friends and hunting and time management becomes overly critical 😊 Also a lower priority on overall reach to the hunting community...

The deer at my place that have a ton of food till harvest time.That’s when the small plots shine.Their will still be a ton of beans and corn on the ground.But a little extra won’t hurt.

My father bought our 32 acre parcel back in 1978. 3 years ago he passed it on to me and i immediately started planting food plots. Took a good hunting property and made it excellent one!

I planted a food plot back in late April early to mid may. Since then I have noticed alot more daytime buck activity during full daylight the food plot is on the edge of thick bedding cover, but surrounded by high grass no trees taken out. Also its right next to my stand first one I ever planted and amazed at the result however waiting for a frost to kill the beans and hopefully more deer will start eating it. Thanks for the video.

I bought 80 acres in northeastern Central mn about three years. I'm currently in the works of hiring someone to clear land in strategic locations. I have really rocky soil borderline sandy but i am pumped to get this boy hood dream of mine rolling thanks for all the info you are willing to share it has helped alot.

I just planting old pasture feilds not being used deer may not be out there in daylight much but there in the woods nearby here in Ontario it's extremely rare to see a buck or even a doe out in the open from mid October until December it's not a property problem it's like this everywhere I know of within a 45min drive even unhunted propertys I believe its because know one is shy to shoot a doe so the deer that learned that were all killed and the ones taught the opposite made it year after year

Jeff, Central Wisconsin, my clover is in bad shape, we have very dry weather here. Should I broadcast winter rye over it to save a food plot for this fall? or brassicas? what would you recommend? It is about 1 acre in size inside the woods, white pines. Please advice
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 Жыл бұрын
That's a tough call. If it is established clover the same rains that would grow brassica or rye would cause the clover to rebound and shade out the rye and brassica germination. If new clover I would add a clover/brassica blend over it like our Duel Threat 365, and that will fill in any lighter holes in the clover for next year while giving you a great Fall crop. You can then still overseed with rye in early Sept if needed. You can then mow or kill the rye out next spring if you added it for this Fall.

If I only owned 20 acres, would planting a small plot cause buck to bed off your property?
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 Жыл бұрын
Not depending on the shape of your land where the plot is located...current cover and diversity of cover on the land...as well as region. Bucks sandwich together much more in big AG than big woods, for example. Lots of factors tho...

Hey Jeff, would deer refuse to work a waterhole if they feel claustrophobic ie. shrubs, trees, weeds, ect surrounding it
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 Жыл бұрын
They sure will Gerard! I recommend a minimum of 10' being very clean, all the way around one. Even then they should be able to see outside of that bubble fairly well...

Jeff- hearing this and stemming from your past UP property scenario (with being the only food source around)- how important is it to amend your soil toward ideal pH, CEC, NPK for plots that actually grow?

Really enjoying your content. Unfortunately my property is adjacent to public land that is the only parcel in the county where hunters can run dogs. It has been a struggle to build a deer herd and hunt on our property when the dog hunters wiped out half of the herd and disrupt the deer behavior. By the second week of gun season even the does and fawns wait till after dark to move. I have repeatedly asked that they keep the dogs off my property but I am told "this is just the way it is around here. You should have thought about it before you moved here". Any incite on this topic other than sell and move?
