A little help if you have the time. I’m looking at a 77 inch S90D or a 77’ Bravia 8. The latter is the only Sony at the size I’m interested in at the price range I’m considering ($3,000). Most of the content I’m watching is a mix of 4K UHD and upscaled television shows via streaming services (Netflix, VUDU, Disney+). I game, only on console and specifically the PS5. Is the XR processing on the Bravia 8 really worth passing on the brighter, more vibrant color the S90D has to offer? Edited to add: Forgot to mention - The TV is being out in the master bedroom. A perfectly light controlled environment. Yay graveyard shifts. Furthermore. I don’t know if it matters, but I use a third gen. Apple TV as my streaming device.

Question: is the red haze on QD-OLED actually caused by the anti-reflective layer or by the fact that the quantum dot layer is much further forward than older QD tech? The red QD is the biggest, so it could re-emit ambient light as red.
@stopthefomoАй бұрын
Not what I observed - just lifted contrast evenly in very bright ambient lighting
@drkevorkian2508Ай бұрын
@stopthefomo Yeah, but it lifts it with a red tint. Much more subtle than most tech users with studio lights pointed at it would have you believe, but still. Totally disagree on the streaming content. There’s been a lot of study on this and the bitrates that you get. The highest bitrate streams are the AppleTV+ Originals on the AppleTV device. Other than that example, the device doesn’t have much to do with the streaming quality at all. It’s the service itself. Services are all over the map. I think they are around 15Mbps. If they were 30mbps there would be a very nominal difference in video. All of them the audio is neutered. The way around this is physical media or the kalaidescape I have a calibrated 83” C3 and I can definitely tell the difference and therefore researched it.

I even prefer slightly softer upscale than Sony. It's cheap by online encoders use as well to make a movie look "better" if lower bit rate with post sharpening to make the appearance of more detail . There are plenty of 4K movies with high detail, not everything needs to aspire to that look. LG needa get on QD-OLED asap, Samsung is way better in the color volume department. N I really hope Samsung remove that terrible Anti Reflective layer. Now the popular thing to say is LG should just abandon WOLED and get WD Panels. These are the same people who have been saying LG is dead for 10 yrs. LG invested billions in WOLED and have huge manufacturing plants. They can't just say "We're done with WOLED" and do something else.

@MichelleAlexandria-EMАй бұрын
Why can't LG "improve" the Color on LG Oleds? They have so many color settings that they don't use - like a "Luminocity" setting. So clearly the TV is capable of doing what QD OLEDS do but LG just isn't utilizing that functionality. It wouldn't match QD but be similar. You were one of the people who spent yrs saying LG OLEDs can't get above 700 Nits and I said they can if they want to, they are always improving.. So who knows what they are cooking.

@@stopthefomo specifically Sony is the TV most likely will be looking forward to so I’m ready for them to release a OLED for 2025 since they skipped this year and hopefully it’s 144 Hz. Now with Samsung, I just want them to get rid of that matte screen and hopefully you get the full 48 band with apparently that’s not been getting because of the one connect box. LG I just want them to upgrade their technology instead of being stubborn with still dealing with white OLED. And Panasonic, I’m just ready for them to show what they got in store for next year because this year they just put something out just to let people know that they’re back in the states

Tariffs are a great negotiating tool and that's what they will be in this case. People buying into the lying media once again. It's not going to be as bad as you think.
@LogeekisticsАй бұрын
Isnt it misleading to call the tech mature and unnecessary to advance in nit since it can hit over 1000 nits? Since in 100% full screen window it does like 250 nits max. Isnt that a big difference compared to LED tvs that depending on content will have more pop when there are no blacks just saturated colors that look brighter in a 100 % window compared to a dim oled at 250 nits? So there is room for improvement and lets use 100% window as metric, and not the marketing numbers which are misleading and only showing on a few seconds of content even in HDR.
@MichelleAlexandria-EMАй бұрын
I'm a hypocrite on this topic. With that said, what is this magical thing people are looking for with TVs? I think we're close to the point of diminishing returns. At some point the Content Delivery side of things need to improve NOT the TVs. Say you decide to wait, TVs are going to be very over priced for most of the year, then you have to deal with the early panel lotteries as manufacturers get rid of their old panels (Samsung is notorious for this), and we'll need several patches for the TVs to work properly and a price drop. So that puts us at September/Oct. Then you start the cycle again. I would love an 83 inch QD OLED over an LG G4 83 but the G4 is on sale now and when the 83 inch QD Oled comes out, I'll be shocked if its less than $5,500 at launch. Meanwhile the G4 has it's BF Sale, the Firmware is stable and I know they are now using 2024 panels. 83 Inch QD Oled will be better, but not that much better.

Very well said at 12:30 - best sentence. LG WAKE UP!! QD OLED color volume is way beyond WOLED already. Do something or you will go bankrupt! Instead of real innovation MLA came, which is an optic lens trick not a panel improvement! Improve the panel finally!
