I am in the market to get a new sports car and had been considering a 2018 or 2019 Mustang GT with a PP1 option. After doing research and seeing all the problems people are having with the Coyote engine and the crappy MT-82 transmission(the one I wanted to get) plus Ford's lack of transparency in dealing with these problems, I crossed the Mustang off my list. I'm currently looking at either a low mileage used Porsche Cayman S or a 2019 Nissan 370Z sport coupe. Ford is taking an iconic street performance car that they have made very good changes to and ruining it with cheap and shoddy manufacturing processes. The manual transmission is made in China??? and so I can't possibly imagine what problems might arise from that😏 The sleeveless cylinder bores are being made in a cheaper way than the traditional electroplating of Nikasil, as other manufacturers(Porsche) have done. I have seen the correspondence between some of the Ford techs at dealerships, who are dealing directly with these problems, and Ford corporate, who has to authorize such diagnostic and repair work. It seems as if the techs, in many cases, are doing a good job and trying to do what is right for the customer but that they are being stymied by a corporate bureaucracy that is controlled by accountants and lawyers. It seems that the only language these management cretins understand is dollars and cents in their pockets and that only when a customer boycott of their product results in a significant drop in profits will they pay any attention to QC issues. I thought that Detroit had learned this lesson decades ago when the Japanese car makers took over the American car market with affordable and reliable cars.

As an owner on an '18 GT A10 that has seen a crap load of drag strip passes I have had zero issues with the car, it's tight as a drum, no rattles and is fast as hell. Visit any Camaro forum, mopar forum and you'll see all of the issues the other brands have since people never post when they're happy, only when they're pissed. Then come back to youtube and look up the videos complaining about the problems, including videos from people who don't own them but make videos anyway. Good luck in your decision.

On my second mustang, went from a 2010 V6 to a 2016 V8....soo many problems with both, control arms failing, wheel bearings failing, gaskets etc. The 5.0 engine ate an entire valve cruising on the highway at 40k miles and needed a new engine, now at 80k head gaskets are done and need to replace those. Ford is severely lacking in quality.

Class-action lawsuits against Ford due to both the manual and automatic transmissions in the Ford Mustangs. This has been going on for years. They are not good transmissions. However, the Shelby GT350 gets the Tremec transmission which is smooth as butter. Why doesn't Ford put the Tremec in all the Mustangs?

Some people having problems, doesn't mean all people having problems. It also doesn't mean that it's due to user error or lack of maintenance. The facts are that many people have reported issues and many of the issues have been indentified as either sub-optimal design or low quality. These can happen on all cars. It is what it is.

Plenty of issues with the Camaro? Last time I checked the Camaro didn't have horrendously bad piston to cylinder wall clearances (.006" is unacceptable), trash Chinese-made manual transmissions with weak aluminum shift forks, cam phaser issues (YET AGAIN), etc. The Camaro's 8-speed has had issues but there is a TSB released in late January early Feb 2019 that identified that the issues with TC shudder and hard shifts is because Exxon Mobil identified problems with their Dexron HP formulation that lead to it absorbing moisture which affected the viscosity of the fluid. Your constant deflection of the major issues with the 3rd gen Coyote are not hilarious, they're also pathetic.

This an extremely uninformed video. The "typewriter" tick is common on every 5.0, from the foxbody up. Additionally, this is common on most engines when it is cold. Once it is warm, it's good to go. The "Piston Slap" is different and will stay with the vehicle the entire time it is idling or running at low RPM's. This issue is due to the new cylinder wall lining and is quite often solved by using 5W-30 oil or an oil additive. The manual transmission "lockout", which is usually in 2nd and subsequent gears, is caused by shifting too rapidly and is remedied by installing an aftermarket short shifter. Ford will often not warranty some of these small issues, and they are solved by a tad bit of ingenuity and being educated on the issue. My 6 spd 2018 has just under 20k miles and not a problem

The rattle and breaking forks are pretty new. However, the tick has been around for a long time. I agree the first gen always has issues, but this is ridiculous. It's as though they didn't even test these cars before release. And the Challengers are not without their own problems as well. Bad water pumps and electronics failing are not uncommon. There was also an issue with some where paddling up caused a gear shift down instead. There are issues with the guage clusters going dead and infotainment screen not responding etc. But overall, the engine and trannies are more reliable than the Coyote. Remember Ford even had issues with the Voodoo engine in the GT 350. Let's not make excuses for them anymore.

My 2015 Mustang GT with PP (completely stock) is dead. In 2017 I had to pay $2,000 to replace the AC Evaporator. A week ago, an Air valve hit the piston due to its spring broke. The engine is 100% damaged. I can't afford $12,500 for an installed rebuilt engine. The car has 86K miles and it is in the process of being junked as we speak; I can't repair. @@jochenheiden Well if you actually listened to what he said the gen 3 Coyote is basically a new engine along with a completely new automatic transmission and heavily revised manual transmission all in one year. There will always be growing pains on a 1st year production of anything new, just ask Chrysler/Fiat about their 8 speed autos, Chrysler 200, Dodge dart...... The Coyote had cylinder #8 problems on year 1 in 2011 and has been rock solid since. Again new tech at the time for Ford. The Coyote engine is at least a decade ahead of Mopars V8's, their only solution is adding more boost and displacement because liter to liter they don't stand a chance against a Coyote. I'm not shitting on Mopar, but its dated tech, both engine wise and chassis wise.

Im looking into getting my 1st mustang ...my 1st ford. Doing lots of reading and research honestly the 18/19 problems of piston slap, engine tick and failure have completely turned me off of buying a new GT...that being said the previous gen coyote motor seems more reliable, still a great looking car and i honestly dont feel i need the fancy dash i rather a more reliable car. Before anyone says anything about the 6 speed still being a week point in previous gen yes this is ture but there seems to be ways to prolong or make them last while still enjoying the car. This is thinking out loud and all just ones opinion. Its still unfortunate that ford isnt really doing anything about the 18/19s even if i were to buy the previous gen and get 15-17 the fact that ford isnt backing there product or helping the customers more...fingers crossed that they will come up with hopfully a recall and permanent fix soon. Both GM and Toyota with LS 5.3...6.0...6.2 and the 2gr-fe respectively, had piston slap and still reaches well over 200k on original motor. Nothing to worry about just don't beat on it when it's cold. But it is definitely not normal since this will be considered a manufacturing defect. Same reason for the LS's and 2gr's. Bare in mind both the LS and 2gr-fe had steel sleeves for cylinder wall, so they were tougher. Same can't be said with the coyote's plasma coated wall as of now.

(Also Mopar Dusters, Roadrunner’s, Cuda, Hondas, Subi, EVO8, Corvettes, Z28s, square bodies, etc. (List is getting too long)) As for any particular brand having issues for me it’s always been my GM products,,,from off road 4x4s to street and race cars it’s the brand that alway seems to fail me. Can’t count all the rear and front axles, transmissions, drive lines I’ve had to replace. As for engines GMs are the only ones I’ve ever had a catastrophic failure on and I’ve had many. From stock engines, stock with bolt on up grades, custom rebuilds to GM factory crate high performance engines. It makes makes me sad because GM products are so damn inexpensive, easy to find and there are so many more options and product available. Plus they are so damn easy to work on and there is tons of proven information out there on how or what to do to make lots of power and torque.

I have a 18 mt82 Gt with 22k its been a great car, I run it hard everyday, today was awesome...I need tires again now. But anyway just sayin they arent all bad, theres more talk from paranoid ppl than actual issues. Sure theres been some issues, maybe more than usual but they sold alot of 18’s this year.
@hochhaul
@hochhaul 5 жыл бұрын
The MT-82 is a ticking time bomb with those weak shift forks. Ford needs to start using a made-in-USA manual transmission. These Chinese made MT-82's have been trash for years, even before the cheap aluminum shift forks.

100% wrong. The noise are the TiVCT mechanisms making noise while cold until the warm oil makes it up to the valve covers and their locations. This was a TSB all the way back to the 2011 5.0. A calibration change helped via the TSB but it was not fully solved. Piston slap is heard at idle and does not go away once warm. I've owned 2 2011s and a 2014 and 2017.

Hi Rush Shift- love your videos Dude👍😁 my question is- When you got your GT, did you try to break in your engine for the first 500-1000 miles? Because usually when you get a brand new vehicle especially manual transmission. Its best to break in the engine and drive it for minimum of 500 miles or 1000 miles even without driving it hard. I think that goes to all cars. Anyways cheers 🥂

So, besides the cheap tranny (aluminum shift forks...wtf) and piston slaps, dealerships are still convinced they can gouge customers on the "high-end" Mustangs. Ford may not realize the consequences (poor quality and dealer gouging)...or perhaps they do and could care less. I would imagine more than a few Ford customers are now considering Chevy or other models.
