You're watering your plant. You're fertilizing it. You are making sure it's getting plenty of sunshine and air flow- and it's producing flowers, but it never seems to be setting fruit. Why is that?

Great tips. I would also suggest investing in a product called Tomato and Blossom Set by Bonide. It's a very cheap ($6) spray that claims to emit a hormone that induces tomato flowers to set fruit. All I know is that since I started using it by plants haven't had a problem. They sell it at Lowe's, but it should be easy to buy online.

Thank you for some great information. I am trying to learn some of the do's and don'ts of growing tomatoes. Some people told me I planted my tomatoes to late for my area...that it would get too hot for them to set fruit. They are nice tomato plants and most have blooms. Temps have been hitting close to 100F during the day and over 75 at night. This is in Texas. Would you advise I remove these plants and start over planting seeds now to put in garden in a month or so? It is the end of June now here. Or is it possible to prune the plants back so they will sort of start over as if they were a fall crop? Thanks for your help or anyone else who would wish to chime in to help me. Jesus bless.

Texas has some pretty unique tomato weather...even though similar gardening zones as California, the heat and humidity of Texas does not allow for summer tomatoes. Your season is pretty much over right now. I am not the right person to advise you since I live in California, very very different tomato growing since it is hot, but the heat is dry, so diseases are much less. I can start another crop right now (in fact I already have seedlings going!) But I am not sure you can do the same in Texas. One of the best KZbin gardeners who lives in Texas is Black Gumbo Southern Gardening. Why don't you pop over to his channel and ask the question in one of his recent videos, either he or someone in the community should be able to guide you. Thanks for watching my video. Not terribly uncommon- if the weather conditions are not right the progress is microscopic. And sometimes they just never grown any bigger 😩

Hi thanks for sharing. I live in Msia and recently planted a tomato tree with little tiny fruit. Its been 2 weeks and the fruits doesn’t grow bigger. What’s the reason ? I put bananas and bone meal while there are flowering. Feel giving up 😅

Oh please don't give up! Tomatoes take a long time to grow, and the good news is that you actually have fruit. If you live in Malaysia, hot and humid, if it is too hot, they will grow more slowly or even stop growing until the weather comes to a better range for them. I am not sure if you have a local gardeners community in your neighborhood to see if othera are also experiencing what you are. You can also see if there are Facebook gardening groups for your climate, and ask there. Sorry I don't know the answer, but you might just have to wait a bit patiently 😉

Might be too much nitrogen, try high potassium and phosphorus fertilizer. Nitrogen is good for leaf development, potassium is good for fruits and blossoms, and phosphorus is good for roots, energy conversion, and cell health. Don't get me wrong all plants need all these nutrients, but just in different concentrations depending on the plant and it's stage of life.

Most people dont have a problem with cherry tomatoes not fruiting its the beef steak indeterminate that go crazy for me and I have to prune out suckers and splits ,,, yet other people growing the same plant dont have this problem. I have plenty of bright yellow blooms but not setting fruit in the middle of june.

@@GreenLove1 how come any dummy can grow these and I can’t. It’s July 18th, I’m in north Alabama. Getting that 6-8 of sun, watering, good soil, etc. it has been a couple weeks of hot heat but maybe no bees and humming birds. Plenty of other birds!! Is it too late to go try another couple plants?? One plant bigger boy has about four tomatoes and the other has two!! My first time tomato plants and I’m a failure!!

I typed up a long response to this, and somehow it vanished. I suggest that you check in with your local Master Gardener chapter. Just do an internet search for Master Gardener Alabama, And you should find it. They should be able to answer for free, any and all questions about growing tomatoes in your county. It's a great resource! I hesitate to advise mainly because Growing tomatoes is so climate specific. In fact one of my Alabama friends on Instagram has already completed her tomato season. Anyway, check it out. You are brand new to growing tomatoes and learning is part of the joy of the experience. Enjoy gardening!

I had mine in the kitchen by the window and after i ate all the tomatoes, it never made tomatoes again and died. Should it be outside instead? (Im in southern california) I will try again in the spring or summer 😞 i have no luck with vegetables

Tomatoes done perform well indoors even with a bright window. Outdoors in full sun with shade cloth during those Southern California heat waves, should provide it with the right conditions to continue to produce. Good luck next summer!

I wouldn't say they absolutely need more water, but when the tomatoes are starting to ripen I would cut back on the watering a little because they can crack with too much watering. The key is to do some consistent watering and make sure the soil stays somewhat moist but not water logged so the plants have the ability to up take those nutrients. Also at the flowering stage I would start using fertilizer rich in potassium and phosphorus instead nitrogen, because potassium promotes blossom and fruiting, phosphorus promotes root health and helps with stress, nitrogen promotes vegetative growth.

I like to water on a regular schedule so that the plant never has days where it gets too dry and goes into survival mode. you don't want it to get gets too much water on some days, and then none at all and drying out on other days.
