3 Rivers Race One Of Europes Biggest Inshore Yachting Races

Hi everyone,
Today’s video features yesterday’s, 3 Rivers Race ( 3RR )on its 60th anniversary . Hosted by Horning Sailing Club, the start and finish point for the race. The race is over 3 rivers on the Norfolk Broads. The rivers, Ant, Bure and Thurne. This race is one of Europe’s largest inshore yachting events.
The route is 50 miles long and has to be completed within a 24hr time scale. There are 4 marker bouys to go around and 3 bridges to lower the masts for. Lining the route are 10 guard ships for the competitors to be checked off one by one as they go past. No engines, simply sails. There is no set route , the competitors decide themselves, as to which way is best to go depending on tide and winds.

I received a lovely message from Queren Stewart, telling me lots of information about the guardships. Thank you Queren, very much appreciated. There are actually normally 10 guardships round the course. One at each of the turning points so that's 4, one at potter bridge, one at Acle bridge, two at Thurne mouth just on the thurne and on the down river leg of the Bure. One on st Benet's straight near the entrance to South Walsham dyke One at Horning Church. Each guardship is manned by at least 4 people with radios, first aid gear, and a rescue dory..

My brother and I were in the Norfolk Punt with the number 100 sails on at 22:55. Unfortunately didn't finish but glad that we retired when we did at around 8, because it saved us a night in the cold sitting there waiting for the tide to turn.

John, Thank you so much . I felt once I got to 1000 subscribers that I had to take this more seriously and really try to improve. I’m totally self taught, so I’m constantly researching and learning. Presently, I’m trying to improve my thumbnails. (The photo you see advertising my latest video). They need to really stand out but mine don’t . There’s so much involved in making a video. There’s lots hidden away that viewers never see. I’m pleased you’ve noticed a difference, you’ve made my day. Thank you 😘

I loved the pictures at (4:05) onwards, of the yacht sails above the reedbeds, that's quintessential Norfolk broads to me. But, where is it, I've been racking my brain, trying to think?. I know camera lenses can shorten or lengthen the field of view, but this one really has got me, HELP PLEASE before the few brain cells that I have left finally explode 🤣... There are always a mix of yachts racing in the '3RR', from the sporty light weight composite racing machines, to wooden built hired Norfolk broads cruising yachts. I'll have to 'nail my colours to the mast' (pun intended) and say, I would be rooting for the traditional broads hire yachts. Is there a 'handicap' system used to decide the winner, or are there just different classes of boat that compete against each other?... Thank you once again Leasa, for putting in the time and effort to bring us such a lovely film... 🙂

Haha, I was stood on the footbridge at Potter and faced Ludham way. It looked like Sail ballet from where I was. So elegant and graceful gliding along. I do hope I can find other similar events on the Broads to watch, as it was a spectacular day. I’m not sure of the rules etc. I’ve put the results on my Facebook page (New Name Same Me ) if that helps ? Martin will know I’m sure. There is nothing about boats , he doesn’t know. 😃 ⛵️⛵️⛵️

Goodness, you took part, wow well done to you in all that heat. Are you in my video? It is difficult to be everywhere and especially with parking an issue at some places. Acle bridge for instance. There is indeed but they didn’t go under it. The yellow marker was outside the boat yard before the bridge.

I was actually stood on Ludham Bridge when I filmed the boat going around the marker. Such a shame the wind disappeared for you all. It was fabulous to watch though. Thank you ⛵️

When I was at Upton around 2pm watching, it was very breezy as you can see in the video. Potter seemed ok but my last place to film from was Ludham Bridge and yes there was 0 wind. Such a shame. Poor Daisy ⛵️
