I would also recommend Harlan Ellison's story Grail. It's not exactly horror, but it's fantastic. He was the writer on the ST:TOS episode City on the Edge of Forever. If you're into audio books there's a few collections of stories he read available.

I read Things Have Gotten Worse on my Kindle, and then I noticed you can't get the ebook anymore from Amazon. That's too bad for people who like ebooks because it's an awesome read!

Just started The summer I died after your recommendation and already hooked. Just finished Less than Zero by Bret Easton Ellis which is a pretty dark read, more introspective of the human mind through adolescence so I'll throw that recommendation your way of you haven't got there first! I have no mouth is one of my absolute favorite short stories ever!!! The details are so well written! AM made me think of a more fucked up version of that huge brain from A wrinkle in time

I really enjoyed The Summer I Died. Some other disturbing books that I would highly recommend and think you'd enjoy are The Resurrectionist, Dead Inside and Jack Ketchum's trilogy Off Season, The Offspring and The Woman : )
