My biological mother had at least SEVEN children by SEVEN different men! She raised none of us. I am the only one who wasn't born out of wedlock as she was married to my father. She had five children after me, all placed for adoption. My brother found me and I found a sister but I have yet to find the other 3. I have tested with every DNA company out there hoping that one day they will do the same... Update 04/30/2019: I found two more. I have found two more but I am not sure they want contact.

My bio father has an indeterminate amount of kids. I was the first, my sister came 5 yrs later & I met her when I was 37. He said once there was a boy too but he refuses to give me info. I did 23 & Me & I hope this "boy" does too. It's interesting how many of us are out there looking for our shared DNA. :)

Jessie A. Sweetheart, you also have to be fully physically and mentally prepared for knowing that even if you find your siblings they may not want anything to do with you. Same goes for anyone else searching for relatives online and biologically speaking. It's happened to me. I'm 41, the oldest of five biological siblings, (that I know of) four of which are half siblings so we have different mothers and fathers, but my full blood brother died as a baby. My Father's two children also have siblings that they were raised with and appear happy to be with and close judging by their Facebook photos. But they know that I'm also their Father's child, but want nothing to do with me. And that's hard, especially as they've got families of their own. So I'm an auntie too but never met their children and been part of their lives. Hey, I don't even know when my half Brother's birthday is. As for the two half siblings that I was raised with, their late father was prolific and obviously never used protection as they've loads of half siblings, too many in fact. So, I thought I should warn you, be prepared for possible rejection. However, I wish you luck. Best wishes sweetheart.

You do not know the story. I have a friend age 62 in bad health raising 7 (age 1 to 13) of her daughter's children. This daughter is 38 and never married and only the first 2 have the same father but none of the fathers have much to do with them. With each birth, the daughter dumped the baby on her by the time they were 6 months old/1 year old, so she has raised them. My friend is in bad heath, (early onset dementia) plus her husband (he was 15 years older than her, her second husband) passed away recently. She fears for what will happen to those kids as she will be 80 when the youngest is 18 but she doubts she will make 70 or if she does she will need someone to take care of her. Her youngest daughter is 30 and still single and has not left home, first to help care for her father, he was ill for a good many years declining health and now her nieces, nephews and mother . Granted that girl loves those kids but shouldn't she be free to have her own family? However, she can't as she is tied down with her sister's kids. Plus, early on this woman's son offered the adopt the first 2 but this selfish, no good daughter woudl not release her parental rights. so you

Nest of free birds,You are right they should have put her up for adoption too. I suspect perhaps, their daughter gave them the baby at birth but had custody of the other 3 which she later relinquished. You saw they were older when they were adopted. I know of a case like that. My husband's aunt lost her husband in a car wreck. (early 1940's) She had 2 children, a boy and girl and they went to live all of them with the grandparents/her parents. When she remarried, my husband's grandfather convinced her to leave the boy with them and take only the girl. In this case of these 4, in the end all 4 had good lives and the youngest one did say she had an adopted brother who she obviously loves. She did not seem bothered. It was the other 3 and it was more about they did not look alike so they knew they had different fathers. I thought the 2 older girls looked alike and then the boy looked like the youngest so I am thinking there were 2 fathers. If I were them I would want to do a DNA test to see if any are full siblings.

@cluvsonj 5 жыл бұрын
Melva it may not be 2 fathers. It could be 3 because the 2 older girls in the young photo are younger looking than the boy appears or at least one of them does. He could be the oldest or the 2nd oldest. If so that would make 3 or 4 dif fathers.

What a story! I'm guessing there was a reason behind it, but I'm so curious why the biological mother wasn't mentioned. If Amber stayed connected with her grandparents, it would seem natural that she knew the whereabouts of her mother. I wonder what happened to her. Its nice to hear that they all had happy childhoods and that they are happy to know each other now. ❤

Crazy how much she looks like her brother. My sister and I have different dads. My sister has perfect hair, perfect skin, almost lavender eyes (like Liz Taylor), great eyelashes, so many differences despite having the same mom. Some people still think we look a lot alike, which is great. It's just crazy looking at these four and looking at my sister and I and how different people can look despite coming from the same human.

I'm adopted from the UK. I live I the us now. All I know about my birth mother is she was an awful person. From what I know I'm onw of 9 children all 10 of us were born from different men. I was adopted when I was 11. I'm 19 now. I've been lucky enough to fine 7 of my 9 siblings. And my adopted mother and father are Amazing. I hope to adopt when I'm ready for children

Good for you! I had biological children but then later on I adopted three older children ages, 7,9,12. The difference between them and children adopted at a very young age is that they do not have that birth mom fantasy. They want absolutely nothing to do with their birth mothers. I wish they were not so hostile towards their biological mothers but I think the opposite where the adopted child has some typical adolescent problem with the adoptive parents and becomes alienated because he is adopted and then begins to idolize the birth parents is not healthy either. Seems like open adoption with occasional visits with the birth family might prevent either extreme. No birth mom fantasies nor hostilities and smoother sailing with their adoptive families when getting into the teen years and young adulthood.

this reminds me a bit of a message i found once in a geneaology forum for people with my last name. it was a woman looking for a man and the details she gave indicated it was my uncle. it was never explicitly stated but it was clear she was looking for the father and family she'd never met. the message was already two years old at the time and i responded trying to get her connected to them but there was never a response and that forum has since been deleted so i don't know if she will ever find them now.

8/18/23: Same to a point. Half-sisters on maternal and paternal sides were proved to be my closest relatives. Met one. Good. Talked to the other by phone and email. Hope to meet her in person. That last one has another sibling who simply said, “Let sleeping dogs lie,” meaning not interested in knowing me. The one I have only chatted with said they think there are two more ‘outside’ children out there. Somewhere! Wow! “Papa was a rolling stone,” so the song goes! Good wishes to all of us! ❤

Absolutely terrible to split up siblings especially twins and triplets. Identical Twins especially often share such a close bond with Twin Speak and ESP feelings that it's cruel and very wrong to separate them. Although we are not close as adults now, I know I'm richer for having been raised with two of my half siblings, I can't imagine what my childhood would have been like without them. I have more half siblings that I don't know and would like to know but they're not interested in me and I have to accept that. I know their names and can see how they are on Facebook but it's not nice knowing that they want nothing to do with me.

I discovered that one of my great great uncles was put in an orphanage. He stayed in touch with one of his brothers (my great grandfather) but no one else. He didn’t tell his sons much of the family that he had been torn away from. His granddaughter took a DNA test and we matched. She knew her grandfather had been given up for adoption but he was in all of the family records I had, with no mention that he had been put into the orphanage. I then realized that their mother passed in 1930 and had left their father with 8 kids, the youngest under a year old. We don’t know why her grandfather was chosen (at 8 years old) to be given up or if there were other children who had been given up. But I think it profoundly affected my great grandfather as he went on to legally adopt the 2 kids his wife had from a previous marriage after they married in 1945. I think he wanted them to have a home even if he wasn’t their biological father because his brother had been torn from him.

That was moving about your great grandfather. During the Great Depression, my grandfather, and his three daughters all developed rheumatic fever. My grandfather was bedridden and not working. My grandmother kept the 2 year old and the 7 year old daughter with rheumatic fever at home, but sent the 10 year old daughter to a children's home for a year or two, possibly to get care for her and maybe food too. There were 5 children all together. Times were difficult back then.

@@lauriegottschalk6330 was Amber raised by your mom's parents initially? If so, it would have been nice if they had taken you all initially. I realize 4 kids is a lot for an older couple... or even to be placed together at all, but that way they could have done an open adoption and you could have all communicated the entire time, even if you didn't live together.

@@saraschneider6781 it’s pretty complicated. I have no court records but from what I know now I am not sure why we were not given to biological family first as that is the normal route for DHS. Amber was with our biological grandparents for a while but they felt they were too old to give her a good life so they chose an open adoption for her. We were in a closed adoption and our names were legally changed when we were adopted so we were unfindable even though they had our birth names and birth dates. Amber was still in the womb when we were put into foster care and I believe our bio mom was incarcerated. Bio mom was given many chances to prove she was a fit mother and could not, so then Amber was put in custody of our grandparents. I have thought of trying to figure out how to get court records from CA because it would be very interesting!

23 and me ruined my life my brother at age 60 did this test to find out our father was not our father! He was killed in a plane crash in 1969 there are 5 of us and our whole life has been a lie. I had surgery 10 years ago and the blood type didn't match my mother said I was crazy but I saw it in her eyes. My brother asked her on her death bed she still denied it and I was the crazy one! I was always the one that didn't fit in I new from early age I was differant. This was a secret she took to the grave and now our whole family is destroyed
@iamlinda100
@iamlinda100 5 жыл бұрын
well it was your own brother's decision to take the test, so don't blame these DNA companies just because the results weren't what you expected or wanted to know. These DNA companies like 23 and Me have changed many people's lives, many for the better because they have helped to reunite families that they thought they never had. And yes, for some other people the experiences might not have been for the better. But it really depends on how you cope with the information you're given, some people take the results as a blessing because it has helped them find family members they never knew they had. And it's up to the people to choose if they want to take these DNA tests, it's not the company's problem if people get the results they don't want or don't expect. That's the point with taking these tests, to discover your ancestry, and a lot of these results can be surprising, it's the people's responsibility to be prepared for whatever results they get. If you did not want your family to change, then maybe your brother should not have taken the test. But you can take the results as a blessing because now you know that you have a whole other family out there, have you ever considered finding your biological family? You never know unless you try, you might gain a whole new family from this, you can turn it into a positive experience instead of a negative one.

Wow, where is your empathy?? Not everyone takes these tests to find family members, some take it to know more about their cultural background, ethnicity, genetic makeup, etc... So, yeah, taking the test for that reason and then finding out that your dad is not your dad and having your relationship with your mom spoiled by lies and suspicion even to her death is absolutely traumatic. I agree that 23 and me ruined her life. I also agree that 23 and Me can't be liable for the lies of women but this is, nonetheless, a warning to all people to proceed with caution.
@iamlinda100
@iamlinda100 5 жыл бұрын
@@giuseppesarto3657 of course I know that not everyone take these DNA tests to find family members, some take them to find out more about their heritage and ethnic background and where they came from. I wasn't trying to be rude, but based on Sandy Wolf-Lit 's comments, it sounded to me like she was blaming 23 and Me for her family being ruined when it's not the company's fault at all. The only thing these DNA companies do is test your DNA and give you the results, they are only responsible for giving you the facts about your DNA and heritage. How people react to the results is their own problem, not the company's. If people's lives were ruined by the results and they want to blame someone for the results then they should blame the people who actually lied and covered up secrets. The OP should blame her parents for being untruthful about her real identity, and not 23 and Me.
