Hi, my name is Shane Paul Neil from St. Coach Multisport. Today we're talking about speed training drill for sprinters. There are a wide array of drills sprinters do, depending on their level of expertise and the events that they're running. But there are 3 basic ones that mostly every sprinter does. The high knee, the butt kick, and the major A.
Running drills are basically designer to exaggerate certain portions of your running stride. So to maintaining proper form and that you’re getting the maximum amount of each step. The high knee is essentially exactly how it sounds. You run to in a slow progression, raise your knee up to a 90 degree angle in relation to your hip and the ground, and then bring it back down to alternate.
There are different methods of doing it, some folks say each leg, sometimes you do it every other stride, there are a wide array of doing this particular drill but overall it will help you get your knee up for and get you up higher to increase your stride overall. The butt kick again, is exactly what it sounds like when your literally kicking yourself in the butt. As your slowly progressing down the track with your knee pointed to the floor, you want your heel to come as close to your behind as possible in quick succession. What this does is it helps exaggerate the motion of your leg coming back to its ready position from behind you. A lot of times you'll see sprinters and their biggest issue is their leg trails off behind them, it takes a long time for them to get their turnover back again.
Lastly you have the major A which is an elongated skip designed for you to maximize your stride length while still making sure that your feet fall directly under your hip. Which is very, very important again? Over striding will have your foot land in front of you can actually slow your speed down and result I injury. And those are 3 speed training drills for sprinters.

All yall missing his point. You younger athletes are used to A skip and B skip or even quick leg exercises in which is good. But a good old school coach with county and former & state champions/ championships knows you should end your leg drills with butt-kick exercises. I'm pretty sure thats not all he does with his athletes. Most athletes wonder how can he / she can become faster. The only bad things that may come out from leg drills is over drilling. A good leg weight lifting regiment and slight hill workouts helps too In order to run faster times. But you definitely need leg lifting training exercises. Football athletes is a perfect example: A wide receiver sprints all through the game. Over %70 of most football athlete are state champions. Example Renaldo Nehemiah. Yall should listen to Otto Bolden when he states how important of getting your legs quickly back to that point A ( butt-kicks )

Well, hang on, there's a basic detail you've omitted! Sorry if it sounds amateur - I have never trained in track and field but have done lots of other sports and as I'm always looking for ways to add variety to my training, I wanted to see what basic sprinting exercises there are. So, the question: On the high knee demonstration why is the athlete landing on his toes (rather than heel first and then roll to the front, as in the natural way of walking). Is this to do with sprinting technique? Is it to do with calf training? Is it to minimise the impact?

Notice a sprinter on a video. The heel NEVER touches the ground. If you land on the heel first you're: 1) losing momentum, resulting in them slowing down and 2) have high impact on the knees and hips. Essentially, the front part of the foot is working like a spring and the heel is never used when sprinting, from beginning to end.

Hey guys I need help. I'm 14 and run a personal best in 100m of 11.5. Is it too late to join a track team or not? As im doing football but quitting it next year as I want to be a sprinter when I'm older. And also how can you get explosive speed? As my start was horrible in the race were I got my PB

11.5 is a good time for a 14 year old. A good exercise for explosiveness would be box jumps, or anything of the like. Also be sure to do a lot of upper body exercises like pushups or anything like that. Don't do any weight training, you're still young :p A strong upper body helps when you push out of the blocks

Fusionn...... That's a pretty good time for your age. I think you should certainly join the track team. But consider sticking with football as well. Those two sports are very compatible.

Would you be ok if people set up goal posts and played soccer in a busy parking lot? The track is for track and field. There are thousands of places to walk, jog or use your strollers but only so many to train for track.

I did this for about a month plus some other drills for ex I ran up stairs, because there's no hills near our area. So yea it works bro.
