A transition zone video would be great. I’m trying to teach how to know when and how to advance to the kitchen line and when to stay back.

I used these tips yesterday, and it completely neutralized the banger. Normally, we like to keep the player back, but I kept dropping my shots into the kitchen, forcing the banger to move up and he really struggled near the net, which forced a lot of errors. Thanks, Austin!

SO good! Most videos about “defeating bangers” are a 3 min video of showing how to block or punch volley back to their feet and they leave it at that. You go so much more in depth and it’s appreciated

Fundamental footwork beyond just the split step would be an excellent topic that is so often overlooked by most amateur players.

I play with this tennis player. He has an awesome forehand and only stay in the baseline. Next time I’m going to try the drop shot and bring him up the kitchen to ding. I tried to keep him back but that’s what he likes.

Great advice. I have heard these things so many times, but I need to hear it at least 100 more! Lol. I am beginning to enjoy playing against bangers as my game improves, must be a good sign! Also, your final advice always rings true and reminds me of a famous quote from Frank Herbert, if you are a fan of Dune: “I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

I have never seen dune but I love that quote. Fear is a result of not believing in yourself, which usually results from not preparing as well as you should. Drill, drill, drill! Thanks for sharing!

If we rely on blocking, punching or resetting were reactive and too late. The only thing that works is to keep every shot low and short by dinking. Bangers never aim for our paddles or hands, they bang just out of our reach and they will bang from any position!

Your suggestion works well against most bangers but sometimes letting shoulder high fly still would land in court right at the line. Now I am seeing some player put so much effort on spinning the ball on every hit where the ball is flying high and change direction in mid air but I am certain it would not be very effective with level 3-5 players but beginner like myself which is annoying when I really want to learn the right skills with players. Do you have pointers how to be faster at the kitchen? I struggle with speeding up backhand and being in correct position when valley balls are fast

Thanks for responding. I now have improved a lot since I posted for not only I let balls fly I am able to recognize when to step back for fast drive or lob. Also I can now drop fast ball into the kitchen.

People that use the term “bangers” as a negative connotation after getting beat by them are called Losers 😂 if you can’t handle the speed get better, I love playing against them.
