My summary of Hadar's recommendations. Hope that I have understood them correctly. I really enjoy and appreciate the ideas that Hadar presents in her videos. 1) Journaling in English allows us to express and transpose our thoughts into written words, on paper or by keyboard with a word processor. Select a tiime of about 30 minutes each day, during which you are most likely to be relaxed and with minimal chance of distraction. Write events of the day in English for about 20 minutes. Avoid self-correction during this time. Then use the remaining 10 minutes to spell check with a dictionary and, or the "Spelling and Grammar" check function under "Tools" in the word processor. 2) Deliberately think in English. Use "empty moments" as available. Rather than constantly checking and attempting to correct - allow the thoughts to flow. 3) "Stream of consciousness" thinking and speaking. Don't be concerned about self correcting - allow the ideas and thoughts about your environment to flow. If you are on your own, speak the thoughts and ideas out loud.

Hi Hadar ! You're the Best ! I think in my target language (english or italian), never in french. So I never translate. But when the words don't flow in my mind, there's no thought, only a blank...😮 I am astonished. I practice listening and reading every single day. Thank you for your tips. 😊

Deliberate thinking in English makes sense 💯 At the beginning it might be hard and even exhausting. But the more often you do that the quicker you feel results! My own hint is imagination English conversation with a particular person

Hi Hadar. Thanks for sharing these strategies, great episode! I’d like to add a couple of tricks that were so beneficial to me, let me know what you think about them. The first one is to create a habit. As an example, you mentioned the exercise in the car, I would say: every time you are in the car, you speak and think in English. Or in the bathroom. At the beginning you forget about the rule, you have to force yourself … but after a while, it is really automatic. Second trick: be surrounded by English conversations, even when we are not really ‘active listeners’. Radio, in English. Podcasts, in English. Movies, in English. My brain reacts in English in this way. When I listen to a podcast (in English) … and I also look around me… my brain thinks in English, in an automatic way. What about you? Does it work also to you?

Im also an israeli..and like hadar im not an english native speaker...but ive learnt english since i was 3 years old...my parents sent me to a private english course...i thank them today for what they did...my advise is to watch alot of english movies without subtitles at all, and just to converse with foreign people online that are ameicans or from other countries that speak english...i think hadar is great and i just think she just have a gift for languages thats all and alot of hard work and determination...everyone can speak the language with hard work only...dont be tempted for shortcuts

That's all very well. But I've always believed that, even when you think you are thinking in English or any other language, In fact, at first you're making those thoughts, phrases, and sentences in your own language, say in one tenth of a second, and then the process of translation or giving the relevant equivalent will be done in our brain. I can't think of any other way that, when you want to say something in any second language, you do it without having that sentence pass through your brain first in your mother tongue. I believe that, neuroscience-wise, it's almost unlikely that one's brain language processing is the other way around, as I described.
