I had never even thought about colouring until I was ill and a friend sent me a colouring book and pens. I started to use the book and I really got the bug. I then bought some cheap colouring pencils and realised they weren't good enough after a while, so I bought some expensive ones which made a huge difference. Then I decided to try water colour pencils, which took me to water colour paints. Through that simple gift of a colouring book, I found my talent as an artist because after water colour paints I turned to acrylics and painting on canvasses. I always thought I couldn't paint because basically I was not that good at drawing. I found out that I didn't have to be good at drawing to paint and so my painting journey took off. My favourite thing to paint is flowers and I've been painting now since 2016. When I look at my first attempts and where I am now, I marvel at how much I have learned. I have learned everything via You Tube, from a few certain artists that teach how to paint with acrylics. People are often very surprised when I say that I learned everything from You Tube and have never had a proper art lesson in my life. My friend who bought that first colouring book didn't really know what she had unleashed LOL!

That's awesome!! That's why I tried to expose my kids to 'everything', lol... you never know where hidden talents/passions might be hiding. You sound like me with the 'turned into that... and that turned into that... and that...' 😂😂 congrats on the newfound artists career!! Great story... super inspiring!!

I do like that she listed so many different styles. I can't draw for squat but have always loved to color. I use a lot of Pinterest for inspiration on images I like and then follow those sources. The thing i like about pinterest is that when u select an image it gives u the option to open up to another outside source and their world or you have a list of similar choices narrowed down a bit more along with a few other categories listed down the side, if u scroll just a bit, so u can narrow it down some more if you'd like. You can quick save what you want for closer viewing, ect. I even love the new sub categories. And once you have a select few favorites it's then that i go looking for their youtube channels if they have them or their websites, Patreon, Instagram (I don't actually use Instagram but it's a popular one), and/or sometimes the ppl i follow have FB groups, too. Those sometimes yield more interesting results than one might think. Some are just fan groups. 🤷. And you can always see what inspires them by seeing whats in their pinterest folders. I like how interactive it can be without actually interacting.
@True_Joker
@True_Joker 3 жыл бұрын
Plus you can always just choose to print the image directly off of Pinterest, too. Swipe the color off and make your own coloring pages. Sometimes i do that. Or make embellishments from them for my journals or whatever I'm carting around at the moment

A friend of mine, and I use to color in a public space where we live, and I got many a compliment on my creativity of my coloring book pages, but since this Covid stuff has been around, our coloring book days have gone to the wayside to other things, BUT since watching this, it has inspired me to take my pages to yet, another level. I'm always looking for that extra little oomph to make my pages pop. Can't tell you how much I'm grateful for your tutorial. A BIG thumbs up!

Coloring is definitely a great way to learn to be creative and practice basic art skills without the pressure of being an expert. There’s a lot you can learn on KZbin and it doesn’t take much to make something amazing. It’s definitely not just for kids!

We all need to remember ourselves especially after this past year. Most of us have been stuck at home doing jobs that aren't on our resumes. Teachers, tech support, internet expert ect.. and doing normal things like cleaning, laundry, cooking more than we've ever had to do. Cooking dinner every night turned into 3 meals a day multiplied by 2 kids with different needs. It's easy to put ourselves as the very last priority.

Same here. About four years ago I colored an owl perched on a branch for my young grandson and he begged me to frame it and hang it in his room. I was actually amazed at how beautiful it turned out. There are so many possibilities when using a coloring book. Just a note, when choosing a new coloring book, I always look for the one image-blank backside pages because otherwise you must sacrifice the image on the backside of your page of choice. Happy creating.

When adult coloring came out I really wanted to love it. I found colored mechanical pencils (only 8 colors) for tiny details. But out of a whole book there might be a few pages that interested me. Years later, I've started revisiting those old books just to practice shading. But this....this speaks to SO many pages I just flip past because they are too big, too busy, too whatever. THIS....touched a special spot in my soul!!! I feel a big monogram coming on over a big busy botanical!! Thanks for this!!!

Oh my goodness! Even as a coloring obsessed child--erm, 3 decades give or take a couple years or so 😉--I have never wanted a coloring book so bad in my life!! Oh, yes, that beautiful book will not only be mine but I shall relish the opportunity to escape into the negative space of each page to create and to combine as many textures as I can without defiling the inherently gorgeous and balanced imagery!!! Over the years, my body has been progressively betraying me and up until very recently, I'd abandoned any efforts to create anything. I was intrigued by the color book trend but could never quite find anything that ignited enough enthusiasm to pursue it... ...Well, consider me on 🔥 🔥 🔥 It will be an honor and privilege to interact with these illustrations. Thank you so much for sharing this!!!

I love that gel pen. I have other gel style pens, but this one really covers. Your botanical pictures are gorgeous.
