The art is in the precision of the movements, and how she matches the beats of her feet to the beats of the music.

The song is "Red Sun" by Anoushka Shankar. Pretty cool; this dance was one of the most interesting I saw on the show.

all i can say is wow the music and dancing are amazing just like the country itself

oh no there's definitely that knee spin move in Bharatanatyam. I've been to several bharatanatyam performances and they all have the knee spin.

She is good and absolutely beautiful but my heart will always and forever be with Ireland.

The whole evening's show was like that. It had to in NBC's technical difficulty.

@DomesticChainsaw: Indian classical dance is also a refined dance, as it is a classical art that requires year of training in order to master the nuances of expression and technique.

It's from the North - some say Rajasthan, some say Uttar Pradesh, as there are different styles of the same dance. it's called Kathak. However, I must say the music is very Bollywood, or as the Russian judge said, Indian rap - if you want to hear real Kathak music you can look it up anytime on youtube for an authentic version.

I'm a European aussie and did folk dancing in Europe. This woman is fantastic, the Indian cultural substance is just flowing out of her performances. As for me she is on the top. The US or AUS has no culture and that void is huge, All they can do is sexual references even homosexual as I spotted on the aussie group dance in the finale. Filth, that's all what they can offer. This Indian performance was rich and pure. Well done India.

@DomesticChainsaw , do you know the intericasies of indian classical dance ? ballet is wonderfull dance form too. But you should remember, much of indian dance forms are also related to ballet, but indian classical dances grew much complex over the period of time. Not sure what you meant by refined...

I know this is Kathak, but I was responding to a comment about Mythili's Bharatnatyam performance.
@Suryavideo15 жыл бұрын
yea you're right, the one moves that distinguishes Bharatanatyam for me is when the dancer sweeps around the stage in circles. this dancer didn't do that.

I have a feeling if there was less tatkar and more chakkar she would have scored higher

I know robert muraine is great!! i'm a popper myself...but dont diss this...it isn't as easy as it looks.. listen to her feet ...it matches every single beat of the tabla which is really hard to do!! and yeah she wasnt just smiling...kathhak also involves multiple faces expressions...it's a 4000 thousand year old dance culture for christ's sake!

I'm a little confused when it comes to classical dance. Was that Bharatanatyam or Kathak? Sorry if I sound ignorant, although I gotta say I don't recognize much Bharatanatyam in the dance.
@spacekangaroo15 жыл бұрын
Actually, I don't think I've ever seen that knee spin move in traditional Bharatnatyam dance. That's more common in folk dance, particularly that of Rajasthan. I think she might have just incorporated it into her own performance for aesthetic effect. I'm not 100% sure though.

this show got trounced in the ratings and in the court of public opinion, but I loved it! I wish they would do something like this every year....maybe even not as a competition but as a televised World Dance Summit or something. Anyway, India was one of the teams I was rooting for and I'm glad Amrapali finished second in the soloist category (though I also liked that lady from Africa's team who did the dying swan routine).
@scorpioninpink15 жыл бұрын
its better than the south african soloist that giggles like a snake...

This is Kathak. The other Indian dancer, Mythili, does Bharatanatyam.
@nygirl179315 жыл бұрын
the dance was amazing..but its so hard to compare bharatanatyam and kathak together...its like totally different leagues
@globalcitizenn12 жыл бұрын
They should not judge the dancers on this show...just explain the dances and let the dancers perform...it's silly to judge something one knows nothing about...instead its better to learn.
@catharticpoet15 жыл бұрын
uh.. Perhaps but the dance displayed above is definitely kathak; bharatanatyam is undeniably a different style of dance and movement entirely

By that logic, you could argue all Rob is doing is bending his limbs weird and making a goofy face. But you know that's not it. Both their styles are dance, both have their merit.

LOL @ the Russian judge "I love that Indian rap music that she was dancing to" - GTFO that was NOT rap music dumb dumb! hahaha Anyway, I still don't get how the hell the judges rated her dance as better than Mythili's.... Amrapali is good, but she wasn't that great :/
