Even with all of the pitfalls I still want to get a PhD. I’m not entirely sure on the stipends you get but at some of the smaller universities the stipends are basically unlivable. Second year in college and I’m brushing up on coding skills because I will need a cushion.

Hi! Love your videos about TUM! I want to study Computational Mechanics there, so I'm looking for some information 😁 I would like to hear your opinion about this program, is it hard to get in, how well do students do on exams, etc. It would be very helpful if you could respond 😊 Thanks!

Hi Jovana, that's great to hear! And thank you for the kind comments. Unfortunately, I don't know much about programs at TUM other than physics, so I don't have any insider info. The website for your program states that there is a 2-step admission procedure. www.ed.tum.de/en/ed/studies/degree-program/computational-mechanics-m-sc/

I had this supervisor in my MSc Optics program here in Germany, she has a PhD in Astrophysics, but she never got a proper academic position, and she was just given a non-tenure position of tutoring stupid people like me and taking classes such as Quantum Mechanics(I'm not from Physics, so this subject was shafting me). Anyway! Not all subjects in Physics are equal, and not everything opens doors, I should have made my previous comment more clearer. Now she works as a Freelancer, she shifted her field of study to Geological History and also was studying that subject Master program while tutoring dumb people like me(because in Germany certificate is more important than interest).

Some Physicists prefer the Mathematics of Physics over the Physics itself, is that something you agree with?
@ac_insights2 жыл бұрын
Definitely, there are experimental physicists and theoretical physicists broadly speaking. Theoretical physicists are the minority in my experience. And the honest truth is that, in order to succeed in that field, you must be truly gifted in math and spatial reasoning. Experimental physics is focused more on building setups and testing physical things, so there is 'less' math involved overall and usually at a lower level.

PhD doesn't open doors for everyone.

It does if you want to work at Netflix. They only hire people with a PhD.
