Good video! My 2015 now has 59k miles and I just returned from a 5k mile trip from SW Colorado to NE Ohio and back. It did 600 mile days without issue, honestly with a 16T sprocket it wasn’t very buzzy. Solid, reliable bikes that can literally take you around the world inexpensively

That’s an awesome trip! I had the larger tooth sprockets when I first bought the bike and found it a bit choppy as for as throttle response OffRoad. When I went back to stock sprockets that odd power delivery issue went away. Have you noticed anything similar? Thanks for watching ;)

I'm still riding my 16 year old 08 KLR650, bought her in Oct 2007 for $4200. She's never broken down on me. She just keeps on tractoring through all the mud holes over in the Osceola NF. I don't ride my KLR on the freeways, (I have the ultimate touring bike for the freeways, a 2010 Harley Electrra-Glide). On the KLR I try to stay on the back roads where perfer to keep the speeds below 60mph (4000rpm's). I change my oil and filter about every 2K miles, (I go the whole 2000 miles without having to add oil). I adjust the valves, change the fork oil and grease the steer head bearings about every 10K miles. Disassemble the rear suspension and regease it and the axle bearings every time I change the rear tire. Clean the air filter as needed, that's about it. I did the .22 cent carb and removed the shorkle mods when the bike was new, haveen't had to touch the carb since. Run a Super Trapp muffler, sounds and runs great!

Add a ‘thermo bob 2’…from Eagle Mike. Read up on what it’s for and that will reduce that bit of oil consumption you deal with.

I can concur with the oil usage. I bought an '08 new and right off the floor it was an oil burner. I always carried a quart with me. So discouraging I sold it a year after. I now have a new '23 Traveler KLR and it absolutely rocks! Love the FI and ABS. No oil usage at all.

Put a 16th front sprocket on it, and keep it at 5k rpm. You won't burn oil.
@klrshthead2906Ай бұрын
@@Gunner40Five this bike had a 16 front and 46 rear I believe when I first bought it. Burned less oil but not none lol. It was not good from a dig off road so I swapped back to stock sprockets
@Gunner40FiveАй бұрын
@@klrshthead2906 I run a 16 front and a stock 43 rear. We have done many 600+ days, and If I let rpms creep above 5K I burn some oil. If I keep at 5K or below the oil burn is negligible on my 2007 KLR.

How difficult is it to ride when you have to wear glasses? I used to wear contacts and now I am not sure about trying to wear glasses inside my helmet.
@klrshthead2906 Жыл бұрын
It’s all about finding the right helmet. Find a retail shop that has a wide selection and try a bunch on. Also I’ve found that sport style glasses work best. I wear oakleys and the hinges are reenforced so they don’t flex while I’m riding and stay in place . Thanks for watching 🤙

@@klrshthead2906 more power less weight. I got a klr gen 1, but i feel the weight off road, much different than the DR and the DR-Z that i have. You must be more careful on a klr off road.
