The Guide elaborates on the techniques used on the show. kzbin.infoUgkx5AVCD46OLnYCyGwOxmyhhvJJSZVuz6nN The examples given in the are helpful and some of the techniques suggested very useful. One such technique/tool suggested was the lure stick to encourage a small dog to keep up with the heel command. I have a small dog who lags behind smelling any and everything and find it hard to keep bending over while walking to his level. The lure stick is great also for another dogs focus and sprinting at anything that catches her eye. The stories about different dogs, their different temperaments, have been helpful, especially Lulu's: After reading about Lulu's challenges I felt relief concerning one of my rescues that I have had for 10 years. Over many years I have checked out many training books from the library, watched different shows, DVDS, bought training books, taken lessons and this book is the best by far! Kindness, patience and perseverance works.

1. No petting on the head Let the husky smell u first to have them know u don’t have any thing harmful cos they can’t see your hand so u should pet them on their cheeks and have them smell u first and get to be comfortable with u 2. Don’t grab their tail They get aggravated and uncomfortable when you grab on their tail cos it’s like someone touching ur rump 3. Don’t sneak up on them while they are sleeping and touch them especially if u don’t know them. You may get bit if you do I love learning and writing notes haha

@@bubbleslovebird4974 I have had 8 Huskies over the past 20 years and they all were rescues except for one who is different and sounds similar to what you describe. We got him at 8 weeks old and was never one who wanted to be petted. He is now 3 years old and will only now come over for attention. He has anxiety about sounds outside of the house that drives him into a frenzy. When you go over to pet him, he growls as you describe but his tail will wag. For some reason, I suspect that it’s his way of expressing acceptance, much like a cat purring. When he has had enough, he will get up and move. Since I know he wasn’t abused since we had him and at age one my husband was overseas for a year, he had consistency since it was only me around him. My other Huskies have had distinct personalities but they are generally friendly with strangers except for my special one. He has learned that he likes rubdowns but it’s taken 3 years to enjoy limited petting. My other 2 current Huskies will vie for my attention. I think my special dog has the equivalent of ADHD, just wired a bit differently. I have found herbal OTC calm aids help him but the dose is 3 chews and I give him one on most days. I don’t want to sedate him but I want to take the edge off his anxiety and it seems to help and it seems to mellow him a bit.

I think it's abusive to shave any dog. If you're not willing to take care of a long-coated dog, don't get one! Their fur is there for a reason. It keeps them warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It also protects their vulnerable skin from sunburn. People are so lazy. And it's the poor dog who pays the price. I recently saw a shaved Komondor and it broke my heart.

My husky Kira was only like this for about 3-4 yrs of her life then the next 12 she was super calm and helpful. She would - without training - alert my mom of my seizures before they happened. I loved her so much. She was returned to the pound 6 times as a puppy for biting tho and when we adopted her we were told she would be euthanized if she was returned again. She stayed with us for the rest of her life. She stopped biting when she realized we weren't gonna leave her and that we would respect her boundaries while also being firm about certain things. Just lost her about 2 months ago and I miss her so damn much.

She has sooo many bad habits, I came looking for help and found your videos. THANK YOU!!! I've only had her for 2 weeks and she is already starting to calm down just from being around people. My other dog, George, a lab mix (and an old boy), plays with her 15 minutes and he's done! I take over, throwing the ball or tug of war. I've watched your videos on (her bad habits) the biting, chewing up socks, bathing and more. I just want to say...GOOD JOB! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Keep up the good work! I swear my husky is broken. She's extremely docile, loves kids and naps. She rarely talks too aside from when I get home from work. She is relatively low energy for the breed. 😅 Edit: I should have mentioned that I'm her fourth owner, she's five now and I got her at two and a half years old. The previous owners all swore she was too much to manage but that's not a surprise when you lock a dog outside by themselves for days on end with no interaction and forget to feed them too on occasion. I think she's just truly happy to have a home where she's loved every day, given lots of treats and goes for car rides. The car rides were tough at first, I assume because she would just be taken and dumped off at another home. :( She's great in any case but folks really should research the breed to see if it matches their lifestyle. Not a dog to get if you live in an apartment and work 12 hours a day.

But around my sister he’s running around and playing. I think it’s because he knows I’m not energetic and won’t run around with him and I don’t like hyper dogs. He also never talks and loves kids as well. but he can sometimes get too excited and knock them over, he loves playing rough.

Very good points! Dogs still surprise us (humans) every day! Huskies especially! I was walking a husky down a hill (not too steep) when my feet decided to not work together anymore, and, on my way down to the ground, I discovered the dog happened to be in the way. He started growling (a VERY unusual sound!) But realized quickly that this wasn't an intentional act and just braced his legs to give me a stable place to grab. We landed - all unhurt- in a big pile (with the required cloud of loose hair) But stll friends!

As someone who's training a service dog, I constantly yoink my dogs tail to make sure he's used to to just in case someone random in public does it for socialization. Its possible to get them used to this, and if you have little kids or are going to be around them, its kind of a good idea to get your dogs used to it, obviously never ever do it to a dog you don't know, just met or isn't yours. Not pull or be mean, but just touch them gently on occasion and praise them for it. Obviously tell the kids not to grab a tail, but kids sometimes either don't listen or "I wonder what happens if I DO" Also, to be clear I don't purposefully make my dog uncomfortable, beyond a quick gentle grab. I do this with his feets and ears and anywhere little hands get grabby, and I started him on this as a puppy, and now he could care less. Some dogs, like my other pupper I rescued years and years ago will never get used to it and always will get pissy (not nip or anything, just grumble), so some dogs don't get used to it. In that case, extra care around strangers is the best thing.

I was just saying on someone else's post. If you want your dog to be comfortable with touching in weird places you have to do it and encourage it. They will eventually get used to it and huskies can definitely be trained to take on touching. I have small kids so I had to train him to be okay with touching. :)

I do pet him in his sleep because as a service dog I cant always control when people touch him. I gently practice stepping on his toes to make sure he doesn't suddenly bite hard. I even practice tripping over him. He's amazingly tolerant. Yesterday I felt awful and did the first day without a walk. He was fine! No extra craziness. Now to go get a dog bath. Lol

Now when you get to know the animal, the base of the tail you can rub and scratch. They can’t reach the itchies back there too well so a scratch or two would be welcome. Also, a good rub (but not too hard) , especially when the animal gets older, helps the joints back there feel better. Again, imagine that animal like yourself, and think how and where you’d want to be touched.

It used to be ten minutes, (which is probably why this video is one second over that ten minute threshold) but nowadays I believe it's actually seven minutes to meet the midroll ad requirements.

Beautiful Huskies!!! And great advice, by the way. I live in a long term care home now, just recovering, thank heavens. I love seeing the majestic jesters in such good hands. For years I had a pack of two Samoyeds and two huskies, both male/female pairs. I miss them so much. Thanks for making me smile today. One humble suggestion of what not to do, and I’m sure you know this, but even if the Husky is wide awake, if it’s attention is focused forward, do not sneak up on it from behind. They can spin and pivot faster than you can decide to back up. Even so, I’ve only seen little nips when this happens; however, the glare of disdain you’ll receive can wither you at 10 paces.

I thank you for all your video's. When my husband and I first got our Siberian Husky's ( they are brother/sister) we didn't do our research on the breed. So we learned the hard way! Lol! They are a yr old. And with all their mischievous ways, we absolutely love them to pieces!

dawn marie driver we adopted an 11 month old Husky about 10 weeks ago. She had three previous homes, due to people not knowing what they were getting into. She is an absolute handful! She is very sweet but has a super strong prey drive, and absolutely no manners! It is basically taking five humans to keep up with one dog. We have other dogs, but they are all pretty well trained.

Carole just Carole, I understand exactly what you are saying. But when I said a handful I really mean a handful! They have completely destroyed my living room. Actually my living room is no more. It's now their play room. And I'm serious. The carpet is tore up, they've chewed holes and I mean holes in the walls! They're on their 2nd couch! Most of the damage happened when we 1st got them. 20 days after we got them I had a terrible accident and was in the hospital for 2 months. Then when I finally got to come home I was bed ridden. So my husband having to work and try and take care of me and a real hard time with the puppies too. I have to say they are getting better they are just very energetic! Hang in there and try and just love them. ❤

dawn marie driver oh my goodness you poor thing! Our Akira has to be in her crate if there is no human at home, and she can’t be trusted with our cats. She actually belongs to my daughter who lives next door, but I end up having her a few hours each day. She is very very sweet. Best wishes on a full recovery!

We got a Husky about 3 weeks ago. She's got a lot of progress, from sitting to staying in just 2 days, potty trained her in only 3 days, sometimes she still does it inside but that's our fault for not taking her out every few hours. Now something that I don't like so far, she can be very very stubborn, like she won't listen and will take advantage of you everytime she can, you give her a finger and she will take the whole hand. She won't ever bark, at all. Eventho she thinks that she is independent, howls because she always wants to be next to you. I can see now how huskies are way different from other dogs. !!

Thank you so much for telling people about the petting on the head thing! I've had dogs my whole life and Siberians for some of that time too and I have told Soooo many people what you just said so thanks. The tail thing should be common sense. As is the startling bit. But the more people you can tell about not patting any dog on the head, the bettter.

Another tip for new dog owners is when they’re a pup just pull on their ears, grab its tail (both of the actions GENTLY), go straight for the head all the time and just anything that makes them uncomfortable and keep doing it so when they’re older they wont get startled by kids doing it to them.
@danielharrison2638
@danielharrison2638 2 жыл бұрын
No, that sounds about as bad of an idea as ignoring the rules that was talked about in the video. What I let any dog do when they are calm, I would let them sniff or lick my hand to get used to me. Then if they are comfortable with it, I pet them on the cheek and then maybe go for the head. I maybe one time either pulled on the dogs tail which is a no no or pull the dog back by the legs which is another no no and a reason I got bit. I even went to the head of a poodle one time and got bit really hard. That's why you don't pull on the tail or the legs.

Great show tx. Fyi, trainers always tell me only to show back of empty open hand. If they bite, you may lose 1 of your 5 senses. They can easily shred all the tips of your fingers, as well as your palm. You go out for milk & comeback home never being able to touch your wife, shoot hoops or shoot pool, et al. If the back of your hand is taken off, no real worries. You will just have to find another striking to utilize. Much love & peace.

Great info but rule # 1 applies to every person that approaches ANY dog for the 1st time. Every time a unknown person comes up to my pet my dog, they get that lesson right off the bat. A dog only sees what’s in front of him and let the dog earn your trust by petting or scratching under his chin. If his tail starts wagging and his ears are straight up, you’ve earned his trust….mission accomplished..!

Just got out of the military and moved in with my best friend who has a husky and man i gotta say he’s one of the best dogs ive ever seen. My buddy works night shift and is gone about 14 hours a day, so me and the husky have formed a pretty close bond. As i type this comment, Suka the husky is curled up against my legs sound asleep in the guest bed. Definitely makes me want to get my own some day.

Excellent tips! And they shouldn't come as a surprise ! They're kinda common sense - but definitely worth repeating! I learned these from real life, but I UNDERSTOOD why they happened. 1) Hands open - let THEM understand and determine you're safe 2) Let them KNOW what you're doing - They can't see above their head OR right alongside the nose! If I toss something to my buddy, he WILL CATCH IT. But, go to hand him a treat, he will back off and SMELL it! And #3 - NO TAIL play! and NO STARTLING! If somebody comes up behind YOU and suddenly touches YOU, you're going to jump! And besides - everyone has SOMEWHERE they don't want touched! Good advice for ANYONE & EVERYONE! AND ANY BREED! A little EMPATHY goes a long way! THANKS TO YOU and the Pupperonies!!
