Thank you for showing the lighting combos. I agree with the lighting vs wardrobe concept, but what happens when you have a client show up to a shoot wearing the opposite clothes for the (fixed) setting? Haha! I make it work...but, any tips?
@EmilyTeague
@EmilyTeague 3 жыл бұрын
I would recommend tips for your clients prior to the shoot! Back when I was focusing on portrait work I used to give out little pdf's before shoots on what to expect / tips on dressing. I would always advice them to avoid saturated colors, graphic shirts, etc.

@@EmilyTeague Thank you so much! The pdf idea is good. I usually give them the "no stripes, patterns or logos" bit and try to inform them of our location only to have them show up in something totally wrong. I should be more specific and give them something to refer to. Thank you again!

Hello. Great video. I'm wondering if models ever ask why you made just head and shoulders shots when they wear things like that short skirt your model has on. I find myself shooting head and shoulders shots far more often than whole-body shots, at least in the studio. Body shots make more sense on location (or in boudoir, which I don't shoot). But I sometimes feel guilty leaving out a nice outfit that the model went to the trouble to assemble. I am shooting a model in Peruvian folklorico dance dresses this weekend. In that case, I will shoot full-length, but I still prefer a greater emphasis on the face.
@EmilyTeague
@EmilyTeague 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dan! For something like this I let the models know it will only be a tight portrait, but I still ask them to bring pants / skirts mostly because the viewers will see in this video but also because it helps with confidence if you've got the whole look going. Even when I do self portraits and I know my feet won't be in there, I still like to wear cute shoes because it's like putting on a personality :) Those Peruvian folklorico dance dresses sound amazing!!!!

The model was ideal for this type of portrait photography. The half-length black hair covered the hr. Some light settings are less suitable for people with a short haircut, as the illuminated ear then sticks too much into the eye of the beholder.

Just as a presentation tip, dial it down a notch. Less caffeine, hurried, spazzy, or whatever has you blitzing through your rapid fire delivery. Take a breath, slow it down, and you’ll deliver the info in a much better and more impactful and understandable way.

Loosing the music would be helpful..
@EmilyTeague
@EmilyTeague 3 жыл бұрын
What do you think about just having it be softer? I've found without it, it can be a bit boring with just my voice- especially in the moments where I'm shooting and not speaking.
@kbqvist
@kbqvist 3 жыл бұрын
@@EmilyTeague If softer, it would be less disruptive, for sure. But please consider this: 1) People's hearing ability varies - a lot. And for those that are unfortunate to have less than idea hearing, music is an interfering signal; and 2) Not everyone likes the same sorts of music.; 3) It is really not music/no music that decides whether a video is boring, and you should not believe anybody telling you that ;-) 4) Something that pretty much always helps make a presentation interesting is that the presenter is really, really present in the moment, in her/his own body, and NOT in a hurry to get it over with. That helps to neutralize any restless on the part of the viewers. Good luck :-)
