Hey Larry, I have been subscribed for a long time and have been watching your videos for several years. Your videos were the first videos that got me into wanting to really start to "DETAIL" my own cars and they struck an OCD cord with me. I have been working on my cars and other family members cars and getting better and better. Watching and rewatching your great comprehensive steps to detailing, for example the one here, have made a big difference. About 16 years ago I started a dark period in my life where a heart disease that I was diagnosed with at age 19 finally took over and I became completely disabled at age 38. After a series of operations, procedures and many many medications my heart finally arrived at the end stage of heart failure in 2016 and was placed on a heart transplant list. I was one of the lucky ones and a heart became available just 4 months after being placed on the list. The surgery was just over 2 years ago and I now know how normal people feel...lol. Sorry for the history but wanted you to know that while this was going on I was watching and learning. It would take my mind off things for a little while. I now want to jump into the detailing world with both feet. If you get time I would love to talk to you or exchange emails on how I can go about this. Thank you in advance. I encountered this on my last detail. '97 Viper GTS where the front clamshell has been re-painted, but the back half was original. Water and frequent pad cleaning/ adding more, not less polish was the solution. Seeing this in this form is amazing. Thank you for everything you do Larry, and Kevin. Amazing work as always.

This could be a video on discouraging someone from doing their own detailing. In all these video's, I think I've heard 4 to 5 different cutting and sealing variations with several variations within each and at least 2 or 3 terminologies in regards to several steps of doing each process.

Polishing paint with these tools is no joke. It’s not super easy and you can ruin your cars paint. If this is too much information that you don’t care to learn or figure out, you probably shouldn’t try to polish your own car. You want easy, pay the money for a pro to do it.

My dad had a black twin spinner Ford taxi in the early '50s which he used for weddings & funerals. After polishing it you could see streaks all over the paintwork. He would sprinkle corn flour over the car and then go over it section by section, lightly, with a polishing cloth. This completely removed the streaks with little effort.

Finally I am getting my black car to actually look good. I have tried so many pads, polishers and products and it just never comes out like I see in everyones videos. Finally seen that I still had residue and my aint or area was not prepped right. I was using some harsh stuff that felt like sand and still it didn't make a difference still had the same swirls and scratches just more shine to it. I wasn't taking my time wasn't leveling down pads but most importantly my prep was garbage.

100 percent cotton cloths and NO POLISH. Polish just fills the surface making it appear smooth and eventually dust just sticks to it. Cotton is finer than microfibre. Use microfibre under a light at night and you can see it marking the paint. Cotton is so fine it actually makes the paint smooth, like glass. I spent 8 hours on my bonnet. I can see my damn pores in my paint. Cotton rag folded into 4. 2 passes..in straight line in metal flow direction..turn rag a quarter turn to left or right and do 2 more passes..repeat until you have done all 4 edges. Get new section of cotton, repeat. Meticulous work..but the best you will ever have your paint. Makes it like glass, and it stays that way. I live on a dirt road and this makes the surface so smooth the dust bounces off it. You're welcome.

+1 on the water on dry residue after the mow-down cycle with compound. I sometimes even used the water compound slurry on the paint with the buffer to let the compound continue to do its thing (sometimes it would dry out prematurely due to the ambient temperature because we were in SC in the summer- indoors of course but still...) it almost always worked out. Before the age of inspection lights (early 1989) we would take it back out in the sun to do a CHECK. The sun would be a tell-tale sign of how we were doing. We have come so far now that it's unreal...

Key point that was said by the Guru, "Keep in mind your removing Paint or Clear Coat Permanently" So only cut the paint if you HAVE to. I try to explain this to folks that are out every other weekend with their polisher chasing down every single imperfection in their daily driver. You just might be doing more harm than good, and to think that oops I removed too much clear coat, I will just add another coat of a ceramic coating in place of what I just took off, it doesn't work that way. Nothing will help your paint more than the factory clear (assuming it is 2 or 3 stage paint etc). Just my thoughts.

Well, I don't have access to a garage and stuck polishing in my back yard. I used a DA for the 1st time last week, used Meguiars Ultimate Compound then Ultimate Polish followed by Gold Class Carnuba Plus on the hood of my dark grey c300. It actually came out good, no where near perfect and still many defects but my goal was to just not screw it up. Gave me confidence that I can do it myself. Now I'm just waiting for all the pollen to stop blowing around everywhere to do some more.

Yeah. Experiment. Try with 2 passes, then 3, then 4. You'll learn how many passes are needed to get the work done. Use the blue tape for this.

I have a 2001 black hilander. From past 5 feet it looks great... Get close and watter spots every where...that have been there awhile . And lots of small scratches plus the hood looks like someone shot it a few hundred times with a BB gun. A noob to car detailing and polishing. Just purchase all equipment and chemicals to give it serious TLC.Almost $200 😮..and it's 105 outside and I don't have a garage 😢 But I will figure it out. Been religiously watching and saving best available videos in preparation so thank you for this one as it's specifically designed for my situation 😊

This video really explained some of the hardships I've been having on my 80s mercedes Smoke Silver paint. Part of it was overworking M105, but the residue and contamination aspects I think more explain why the compound residue was sticking so much.

Wonderful tutorial . Came across a tacoma hood that had oxidation and heavy discoloration . Stubborn swirls and I just did 2 step paint correction on a 2018 blk srt8 charger last week in my shop looks flawless. Today struggles on hood. I believe my pads are taking up faster with all the oxidation I will follow these steps weird that different paint shop different results. FYI the Tacoma is electric blue not even blk

I'd like to preface my most likely long winded comment with I have been doing full paint corrections to simple finishing or for about 20 years or so from starting when we only had those dinosaur T-Rex aggressive air powered rotaries to current machines. What a learning curve but helps customers feel more comfortable and I believe brought more business HOWEVER am no means a pro or come close to the 2 of you. First I can't thank you enough for your videos and videos with Kevin. I'm also one who wants to know the why's and "on paper" explanations. You 2 have elevated so much of my ability and my customers are always extremely satisfied. Recently, and for what I believe the first time I had run into this problem here. Sure, I've cleaned pads, played with pressure yet now having watches this and being mindful of residue control most important, priming in a different way and using this technique had my paint correction improve and move along so much better and easier. This is a constantly learning business and my contacts reach only so far with all of us sharing our trials and errors and experimentation results but you can never stop adding to your knowledge ammunition. Between yourself and Kevin, this technique and especially the residue control of clear, which can be easily overlooked, has helped not just myself tremendously however passing along this video has helped many of my contacts and friends in the business. Time saver, improved quality of work and having more in the arsenal between our ears was amazing. So a huge thank you to yourself and for having Kevin with you for the help and knowledge this gave us all in frustrating situations. It's great to see guys like the 2 of you so willing to share as opposed to just keeping to yourself to improve. This will help this business and continue to form a long time to come. So much information in this video!!! I love it!! I'm really tired off all these mobile detailers makeing videos contradicting the steps that need to be taken. They play it off like this isn't important, or that isn't important....they keep watering down the detailing realm with bad, very bad information. Dont get me wrong I'm a mobile detailer but I dont make video after video of miss information and watering down the ideas and processes involved in correcting paint. I just dont get it. Disheartening at the least. What's worse is these guys feel like they are providing the correct information. My rant is over.. Hopefully someone else has seen this in the detailing community.

I’ve seen so many detailers on KZbin priming pads with spray wax or quick detailers.Also spraying a panel with either of these in between passes to remove polish or compound..Only now common sense is being applied,I hope many of these detailers get to see this.

I've been following your techniques for polishing black paint. I have a black Subaru Legacy (you know how Subaru is with their paint). It was a bit of a nightmare initially. I was using a fine polish and a finishing pad it almost seemed like I wasn't even cutting through the hazing. Thought I was crazy then I realized I just wasn't cleaning the pad enough. I started by clearing it a lot more often then looking back over it, the hazing was coming out. It took a good 8 hours but I saw it in the sun today, it's not perfect but I'd say way way better at this point. I have my girlfriends black VW Golf to tackle next. We'll see how that goes.

If you keep buffing and compounding on a regular basis sooner or later you will run out of paint on your car,as the man said you are removing paint and cutting paint.The best thing to do is to do it once and then put a protective polish on it that if you are going to keep the car for long.Thank you for your video .

I keep seeing ppl asking what if I dont have space in my garage or dont own a garage, what then.. I suggest using underground parking car wash (big shopping centers usually have it) and clay + polishing it there. There is definitely less dust/sand/contaminants then outside in the open. This is just a tip, hope you find it useful
